Get your first look at Navid Negahban as Amahl Farouk, or the Shadow King, in a tantalizingly weird new promo for Legion season 2. The FX series is slated to return a month from now, just over a year since the series first premiered and demonstrated what could be done when someone was given a little creative license with one of Marvel Comics’ characters. The result was a visually impressive, sometimes mind-bending take on the strange life and times of David Haller, one of the most powerful mutants ever to be introduced in the funny books.

The series came from Fargo’s Noah Hawley, and was a big enough hit to earn a second season, the news of which likely put fans at ease considering season 1 ended on a huge post-credits cliffhanger. As such, the anticipation of finding out what happened to David and why is likely at the top of everyone’s Need To Know list. While satisfying the audience’s curiosity with regard to that fittingly strange sequence is a top priority for the show’s sophomore season, so too is learning more about Farouk, otherwise known as David’s parasitic nemesis, the Shadow King.

Thanks to the help of Syd and the other mutants of Summerland, the Shadow King was expelled from David’s psyche, but soon found another host in Melanie Bird’s long-lost husband, Oliver. Now that the Shadow King has hit the open road in Oliver’s body, the Shadow King, and all the forms he takes, will no doubt be up to no good. But one big change coming to season 2 will be the chance to see Farouk in the flesh, as played by former Homeland actor Navid Negahban, who makes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance in the above promo titled ‘Amorphous.’

Navid Negahban in Legion Season 2

Neghaban is a late addition to the series, stepping in after Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman) left the role shortly after filming on season 2 began. The move certainly came as a surprise and a disappointment, losing a charismatic actor like Taghmoui, but Negahban is certainly no slouch in that department either. With roles in everything from the aforementioned Homeland to Veep, American Assassin, and the upcoming live-action Aladdin, he also has enough high-profile roles under his belt to make for a welcome addition to the cast.

Obviously, this quick peek at the Shadow King doesn’t really give the audience any indication of what direction Legion plans to go with him, but it’s a good sign that the show isn’t trying to keep him under wraps until the new season airs. Seeing Farouk in the promo suggests he’ll have a significant role, too. Whether it’s as big as Syd, Lenny, or Clark, still remains to be seen, but if the promo is hinting at more than just some cool visual effects, then Farouk might yet have a role to play in understanding David’s strange relationship with reality.
