Despite a rumor claiming otherwise, Legends of Tomorrow has not been renewed for season 8, according to the showrunner. One of the Arrowverse's remaining shows that has been on the air for more than five seasons is Legends of Tomorrow. Spun-off from Arrow and The Flash, the time-traveling DC drama has been a fan-favorite for the last seven years. From the time periods the team has visited to their LGBTQ+ representation, Legends of Tomorrow has garnered a lot of critical praise throughout its run. The DC product also became the latest Arrowverse series to cross 100 episodes in its ongoing season 7.

However, with Legends of Tomorrow season 7 only having 13 episodes for its run, fans are eager to learn whether The CW has opted to renew it for season 8. In previous years, the network has usually given multiple renewals all at once in January/February, and despite being affected by the pandemic, Legends of Tomorrow was one of 12 shows to get another season in 2021. With only a few episodes left to air, rumors have now started to circulate that season 8 is already a go.

Apparently, however, that is not yet the case. One of the Legends of Tomorrow showrunners, Keto Shimizu, took to Twitter to debunk a report claiming the Arrowverse drama had already been picked up for another season. An image of a production email that went out to the Vancouver crew made its way online, in which the sender told the team they looked forward to working with them again next season. Shimizu clarified this memo was standard procedure for when a show is put on hold, to ensure they don't lose any crew members. The EP also made a separate statement that they haven't been given the green light for Legends of Tomorrow season 8 while explaining the renewal process. Check out the tweets below:

Similar to The Flash's Grant Gustin, potential contract renegotiations could possibly be playing a factor here. Given that most actors get signed up for seven years at the start, Caity Lotz, the last remaining original cast member, would theoretically be someone whose deal is up after this season. It's also very possible that there are other cast members that have expiring deals after Legends of Tomorrow season 7. With so many fan-favorite characters on the cast, it makes sense that the Legends of Tomorrow team would want to make sure they have everyone back for the next season before they order more episodes.

It's worth noting that The CW currently being for sale is very likely affecting its ability to greenlight future programming. Since Legends of Tomorrow has run for so long on The CW, it feels safe to say that the network wouldn't cancel it when there are only three episodes left. In past years, it has been usually good with giving various series a proper ending, usually with a shortened final season. With Arrow season 8 and Supergirl season 6 as prime examples, the Arrowverse is usually able to give their fans a heads up when the end is coming. With Shimizu debunking the rumor, for now, fans will hopefully know if Legends of Tomorrow season 8 is a go before the show's season 7 finale in March.
