Legends of Tomorrow will not be back for an eighth season as the showrunner has officially confirmed the Arrowverse drama's end. It has been a different year for viewers of The CW shows, particularly the Arrowverse. Traditionally, The CW has given early renewals to most of their series at the start of each new year, usually around late January/early February. However, 2022 became a different story due to The CW being up for sales as WarnerMedia and Paramount are looking to sell it.

Because of the shake-up with the network, The CW has been late on its renewals and cancelations for the 2022-2023 TV season. For Legends of Tomorrow, the seventh season wrapped its run in March, with a 13-episode run, along with Batwoman season 3. Both Arrowverse dramas ended up landing on the bubble status, meaning there was a chance that either of them could get canceled.

After waiting for over a month, Legends of Tomorrow has officially been canceled after seven seasons. Keto Shimizu, who is one of the showrunners and executive producers, broke the news today on Twitter, thanking everyone involved with the series. The Legends of Tomorrow Writers Room also made a heartfelt tweet, thanking fans for their support over the years. Check out both tweets below:

Reports about Legends of Tomorrow being on the bubble first emerged in early March as the status of the various Arrowverse shows began to come out. While The Flash and Superman & Lois were considered safe for renewals, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were both at risk of getting cut from the 2022-2023 TV season slate. Legends of Tomorrow season 8 would have featured Donald Faison's Booster Gold as a series regular had The CW brought it back. The Legends of Tomorrow news came the same day as Batwoman was officially canceled too.

Legends of Tomorrow season 7 didn't just end with the introduction of Booster Gold, but it ended on a major cliffhanger too. The final scene sees the Legends getting arrested by the Time Police for time-travel violations. Sadly, that unresolved cliffhanger will never get resolved, at least not on screen. Given that DC Comics is currently doing an Arrowverse tie-in comic crossover titled Earth-Prime, perhaps Legends of Tomorrow season 8 can get told on-page to at least give fans a proper conclusion. With both Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow officially canceled, The CW's DC TV slate for next season only includes The Flash season 9 and Superman & Lois season 3.
