Caity Lotz thinks it's time for Sara Lance to have a "real relationship" again in Legends of Tomorrow. The third live-action series to be added to The CW's growing DC TV universe, Legends of Tomorrow has managed to carve out a nice niche for itself over the past two years, by telling zany and fun sci-fi, time travel stories that fans would be hard-pressed to see on either The Flash or Arrow. It doesn't hurt either that almost the entire Legends roster is made up of fan-favorite characters who were first introduced on The Flash or Arrow, including Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein/Firestorm, and more.
But few of the Legends characters were quite as well-beloved prior to the show's premiere episode as Caity Lotz's Sara Lance/White Canary, who after spending an entire season of Arrow proving herself to be one of the show's best characters, was later killed off, resurrected, and then added to the Legends lineup. And for those fans out there who have been hoping for Sara to find some kind of new romance in the show as well, it doesn't look like they're the only ones calling for it.
While speaking with DC Entertainment about Legends of Tomorrow's upcoming third season, Lotz herself teased how the show's now broken timeline will affect the tone and stories being told in it, before briefly saying one thing she hopes to see happen in it:
"I think this time we're not gonna see history as we remembered it. Before, you'd travel back and history was kind of what it was in the text books. Now that we've broken time, we can travel anywhere and anything can be crazy... I'd like to see what sort of effects being in charge have on [Sara]. I'd like to see her have a good relationship. Not just a fling but a real love relationship would be nice."
When Sara was first introduced in Arrow, she was in the midst of a romantic relationship with Nyssa Al Ghul (Katrina Law), the daughter of Ra's, and was for many fans of the series, a welcome form of LGBT representation in the superhero genre. So when Legends of Tomorrow didn't include any major romances for Sara in its first two seasons, many fans began to wonder whether or not they'd ever get to see Sara in a steady place, romantically again.
She's had flings, of course, throughout the course of the show's run, but nothing truly substantial - and thanks to Lotz's comments here, it's clear that fans aren't the only ones who have noticed that. At the same time, it sounds like the Legends will have quite a bit to deal with moving forwards, in trying to fix the very same timeline that they themselves fractured at the end of season 2. So whether or not Sara actually finds a new real love interest in the new season, will have to wait to be seen for the time being - but at the very least, fans of the character and show can now rest easy knowing they're not the only ones rooting for it to happen.
Legends of Tomorrow season 3 premieres Tuesday, October 10 on The CW.
