DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 3 casts Jes Macallan in a recurring role. Legends of Tomorrow has created plenty of work for jobbing actors over the last couple of years. Because The CW’s superhero series tends to jump to a new time period and location every week, there’s never a shortage of guest spots, villainous roles, and recurring cast opportunities.
Legends of Tomorrow season 3 has already cast a couple of big ones. Tala Ashe will play Zari Adrianna Tomaz, better known as the amulet-powered hero Isis. And Billy Zane has nabbed a part as legendary showman P.T. Barnum, enabling a Titanic reunion between Zane and Victor Garber, the latter of which stars on the series as Professor Martin Stein. And now, another name can be added to the list of new faces.
Deadline is reporting that Mistresses alum Jes Macallan has scored a recurring role. She’ll play Special Agent Ava Sharpe, a member of the Rip Hunter’s Time Bureau. This fresh group is described in the official synopsis as “the new sheriffs in town.” Deadline also shared this description of Macallan’s character:
“She is very smart and incredibly ambitious and always believes she is the smartest person in the room. She is often quite ruthless in obtaining her goals and her drive for perfection has left many discarded friendships (and relationships) in her wake.”
It sounds a lot like Ava Sharpe will be an obstacle between the Waverider crew and their goals this season. It’s easy to imagine her butting heads with the ship’s captain, Caity Lotz’s former assassin Sara Lance. On the flip side of that, Sara tends to show a romantic interest whenever a new strong female character arrives on the scene. Perhaps the dynamic here could start as an oppositional one, before shooting off in a different direction entirely.
The line in that description about discarded relationships is an interesting one. Is Arthur Darvill’s Rip one of her exes? And has Rip recruited a former lover in a bid to make amends in his personal life while simultaneously fixing the screwed up timeline? That could create even more tension as the show surges into its third year.
As well as appearing in all four seasons of Mistresses, Macallan also has the shows Relationship Status, Red Band Society, Femme Fatales, Grey’s Anatomy and NCIS: Los Angeles on her resumé. IMDB states that she’ll debut in Legends Of Tomorrow season 3 episode 1, which is going by the Mick-pleasing title “Aruba-Con”.
Legends Of Tomorrow will return to The CW on Tuesday, October 10.
