SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.
The trailer for the Legends of Tomorrow season 3 finale, 'The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly', teases the final showdown between the Legends and Mallus. For much of the season, the Legends have been repairing anachronisms throughout history while also trying to figure out who or what is pulling the strings on their newly-resurrected enemy, Damien Darhk, and his dark magic-wielding daughter Nora. It turns out the puppet master is Mallus, a demon that was imprisoned by the six Totem bearers long ago and needs to destabilize the very fabric of time (via anachronisms) in order to escape his prison.
After getting an unexpected assist from Damien - making a last-ditch effort to save his daughter from becoming an empty vessel for Mallus - and rescuing a young Barack Obama, the Legends were able to bring together all six magical MacGuffins in season 3's penultimate episode, 'Guest Starring John Noble'. In a twist however, Sara came to realize that allowing Mallus to break free from his prison and enter our world would give the Legends their best shot at defeating him. Thus, the time-traveling heroes helped Amaya and Nate to save Amaya's village in the year 1992, in order to further alter the timeline and create the final anachronism necessary to set Mallus loose.
The synopsis for 'The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly' confirms that the Legends' idea to defeat Mallus using the totems "doesn't go as planned", and that Rip Hunter has to take drastic action to save the Legends from the fully-unleashed demon. This somehow leads to the Legends landing in the Wild West and reuniting with their old pal Jonah Hex, as they regroup and prepare for the final battle with Mallus. The trailer for the season 3 finale further shows the Legends having to take on a whole army of anachronisms (including, romans, vikings, and pirates) that they encountered on their adventures earlier this season.
It seems the Legends will be down a man in the Wild West, as the season 3 finale synopsis reveals that Ray will stay behind on the Waverider in order to keep an eye on Damien. The former Legion of Doom member has gone on a dramatic emotional journey this season, coming to realize that he loves his daughter and even apologizing to Sara for having murdered her sister Laurel... before betraying the Legends in a desperate attempt to spare Nora by stopping Mallus from being released. Damien may yet complete his redemption arc in the season 3 finale though, and could even be the key to destroying Mallus for good.
Elsewhere, Amaya will be working on a way to use the totems to defeat Mallus and could be getting some assistance from John Constantine, in that respect. Constantine is confirmed to show up in the season 3 finale at some point, paving the way to him becoming a series regular in season 4 (which is now officially happening). With Mallus, Damien Darhk, and an army of anachronisms on their plate, it sounds like the Legends will need all the backup they can get in 'The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly' too. It's a good thing, then, that their old teammate Jax will be returning for the season finale as well, to further help their cause.
Legends of Tomorrow season 3 concludes Monday, April 9 with 'The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly' on The CW.
