Franz Drameh's Jefferson "Jax" Jackson is returning to Legends of Tomorrow for the season 3 finale. Jax left the series in the midseason finale, following the death of Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber) in the 2017 Arrowverse crossover.
The fate of Firestorm was put in question after it was reported that Victor Garber was preparing to exit the show in season 3 to resume his career on Broadway. Over the course of season 3, it appeared that the series was already setting up a way for his character to be written off. Stein wanted to spend more time with his family and was ready to give up being a Legend. In a shocking twist, Stein was tragically killed in the crossover event, "Crisis on Earth-X". In the next episode of Legends, Jax, who no longer had to access to his Firestorm powers, decided to leave the team in order to make peace with Stein's death.
Comic Book reports that Drameh will return as Jax in the season 3 finale of Legends of Tomorrow, titled "The Good, The Bad, And The Cuddly". Details of Jax's role in the finale are still under wraps. It remains to be seen if Jax's return will result in the character rejoining the team as a series regular for season 4. While the team is currently shorthanded, Firestorm will soon be replaced by Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale). Like all original members of the Legends, Wally West will be recruited by Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill).
The problem with Jax potentially rejoining the team is that Jax's lack of powers continues to stand in his way. Right now, the only thing he can offer the crew of the Waverider is his expertise as a mechanic, a role that is currently being filled by Zari (Tala Ashe).
Jax won't be the only hero to guest star in the season finale as the Legends face off against Mallus. Matt Ryan's Constantine, who is already set to return in "Necromancing the Stone", is rumored to appear, along with Jonah Hex (Johnathon Schaech). A set photo indicates that during the episode, the crew of the Waverider will revisit the Old West. It could be that the Legends will need all the help they can get as they take on Mallus for the final time.
Legends of Tomorrow continues tonight with "Curse of the Earth Totem" at 8pm ET on The CW.
