Legends of Tomorrow promised big changes in store at the end of season 1, with the destruction of the Time Masters and the sacrificial death of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). With Hawkman and Hawkgirl also departing, and the ominous warning from Justice Society of America member Rex Tyler (Patrick J. Adams), fans were prepared for a major shake-up in the Waverider team and their mission.

Much of the new storyline will take place in the 1940s, and involve more of the JSA members. This includes Obsidian, Vixen, Dr. Mid-Nite, Stargirl, and Commander Steel. The benefit of time travel is that we'll also see Steel's grandson, Dr. Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), a present-day historian hoping to track down the Legends team.

As we learned from the Legends of Tomorrow season premiere synopsis, Heywood has noticed some anomalies in history that could have "catastrophic consequences." In the latest trailer from The CW, which you can watch above, the history scholar shares his findings with Green Arrow's alter ego, Oliver Queen (guest star Stephen Amell). Heywood has recognized some of the mayor's friends in historical images, and as he explains, Ollie is "the only person left who won't think I'm crazy."

While Legends is packed with a variety of "heroes," including criminals, vigilantes, and those with special abilities, Heywood thus far is just an ordinary civilian. From the looks of the video above, it seems he may need a little coaxing to get fully on board with this superhero stuff.

Every character has a backstory, and it looks like Heywood's will be an intriguing one, involving a mysterious secret he shares with granddad Steel -- something that will get more fully explored in episode 2. Legends has always found humor in the conflicting personality types aboard the Waverider, and it should be fun to see how a wide-eyed professor will interact with the feistier members of the team. His introductory mission involves saving Albert Einstein from the Nazis, so he'll definitely be jumping right into the deep end of the pool.
