The crew of the Waverider are going to the circus on the next episode of Legends of Tomorrow. Guest-starring Billy Zane, the episode will pit the Legends against a time-displaced saber toothed tiger.
The 18-episode third season of Legends of Tomorrow, which kicked off last night with "Aruba-Con," sends the Legends on a quest to repair time after the team broke the most important rule of time travel by interacting with their past selves. Facing interference from their former leader and teammate Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his newly-formed Time Bureau, the Legends will have to work together to fix the fractures in time known as anachronisms. The team will also deal with Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and his new Legion of Doom.
The promo at the end of last night's episode previewed the second episode of the season, "Freakshow." The episode will feature Billy Zane as P.T. Barnum, the founder of Barnum & Bailey Circus. The promo shows the Legends visiting the circus during the 1970s when Ray enthusiastically discovers a saber toothed tiger locked in a cage. Right after Sara (Caity Lotz) says "we have this under control," we see the saber toothed tiger loose on the Waverider, which indicates that the situation has gone from bad to worse. Barnum also appears to take an interest in the Legends, who would of course love to have superheroes taking part in his show.
The CW has previously released an official synopsis for the episode:
IT’S ALWAYS A CIRCUS — The Legends find themselves in 1870 to fix the anachronism which happens to be at P.T. Barnum’s fledgling circus. However, Nate (Nick Zano) and Ray (Brandon Routh) accidentally free a saber toothed tiger, creating a bigger problem. Meanwhile, P.T. Barnum (guest star Billy Zane) is on the hunt to capture Nate and Ray to make his show even more exciting for the crowd.
The Legends' trip to the circus has been featured heavily in trailers for the new season. Fans have been anticipating the episode since it was announced that Billy Zane had been cast as P.T. Barnum in June. Executive producer Phil Klemmer explained that the character is "the villain of the story," but also "a guy who wants to put on a good show," though at the expense of the Legends.
It's unclear if "Freakshow" will explore the currently unfolding storyline with Amaya that was teased at the end of "Aruba-Con," or if Rip's Time Bureau will be involved.
The next episode of Legends of Tomorrow will air on Tuesday, October 17 on The CW.
