[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.]

-

Like The Flash, the heroes on Legends of Tomorrow are no strangers to the idea of time travel. While Barry usually mucks things up with his journeys forward and back through time, however, the Legends are often stopping abnormal threats to the flow of the timestream. As such, they're given a lot more leeway to have adventures, meet famous figures, and even influence history from time to time. While the seeming inconsistencies between the two show's approaches to time travel can start to make your head hurt if you think about it too much, the results on Legends are that the show gets to have a lot of fun in a variety of exciting locales.

From the moon to Camelot, the Legends have had more than a few wild rides. Of course, all that meddling with time often creates alternate outcomes—something Barry is intimately familiar with. Still, it's nothing the Legends haven't been able to fix. Unfortunately, the Spear of Destiny they've been hunting alongside the nefarious Legion of Doom doesn't just alter time, it rewrites reality. As such, the Legends have been doing their darnedest to get to it before the assembled rogues do.

Unfortunatley, after last night's adventure in World War I with J.R.R. Tolkien, the Legion have added Captain Cold and Mick Rory to their roster and have obtained the Spear. Teasing their evil plan, The CW has released the trailer for next week's 'Doomworld', which shows the new reality the Legion have created. While it's immediately clear that Mick is still loyal to the Legends, they're all left in some tricky places. Ray and Nate are janitors, Sara and Amaya are assassins for the Legion, and Jax is Stein's jerky boss. As for Rip, well, we're not really sure what's going on with him.

Rip Hunter in Doomworld on Legends of Tomorrow

Thanks to the promotional nature of The CW, we often know the results of an episode before we've seen it thanks to the synopsis for its follow-up. With 'Doomworld' serving as the penultimate episode of the season, the Legends season 2 finale description indicates that said alternate reality is overcome quickly and a new time-related threat emerges thereafter. We'll just have to wait until next week to be sure but either way, the episode looks like a fun deviation form the norm, allowing the core cast members to settle into new roles (similar to what happened during The Flash/Supergirl musical crossover).

We also know that the Legends season 2 finale includes Tolkien and Laurel Lance, among other familiar faces. Many of Sara's actions earlier this season were driven by her desire to bring her sibling back to life, so it'll be interesting to see the Lance Sisters reunited for the first time in awhile. There's no telling whether the threat of the Legion will end with the finale, but we sure hope the group sticks around. Providing the Arrowverse heroes with an equally powerful group of villains will only make things more exciting. In fact, they'd be the perfect threat for the team to face in the next yearly multi-show crossover.
