[SPOILERS for Crisis on Earth-X ahead.]

The midseason finale trailer for Legends of Tomorrow shows the team going Nordic to thwart a Viking invasion. After the monumental events of Crisis on Earth-X, it looks as if Legends of Tomorrow will head into its hiatus doing what it does best: embracing the sheer joy of time travel. More than that, the show will offer yet another tug at the heartstrings of viewers as Jax and the team struggle to go on after Martin Stein’s death in the crossover.

Ever since word broke that Victor Garber would be leaving Legends of Tomorrow, the question of both Firestorm and Jax’s place on the show has been a constant. Next week’s episode will offer some insight into where things will be headed, but it looks as if Jax hasn’t given up on his other half. After all, changing history can be quite tempting when you live on a time machine.

The CW has released the trailer for next week’s Legends of Tomorrow midseason finale, ‘Beebo the God of War’, along with a synopsis. The trailer shows the team doing their best Vikings cosplay as they seek to stop an anachronism that could lead to a Nordic conquest of the Americas. The arrival of Damian Darhk will also force Sara Lance to swallow her pride and call in the help of the Time Bureau’s Agent Sharpe.

Rattled by recent events, the Legends dive into work which finds them investigating an Anachronism in a Viking settlement in the New World. The Legends realize that the Norsemen are worshipping an artifact as their god and are surprised by the artifact’s origin. For the first time, Sara is worried that they might need back up when Damien Darhk shows up. Meanwhile, Jax finds a loophole that could potentially change history, but it is a risk he is willing to take.

Between the arrival of Darhk and the mysterious artifact the Vikings are worshipping, it stands to reason that the Legends will need some extra hope. Fortunately, John Constantine is coming to Legends of Tomorrow and he is slated to appear in the midseason finale, followed by a more extensive role in the midseason premiere when the show returns next year.

Along with Vikings, blue gods, Darhk, and Constantine, the winter finale of Legends of Tomorrow will also see Jax attempt to bring Stein back in some way. There’s a younger version of him in the trailer, continuing this season’s mystery of the Legends encountering their past selves and relatives. Younger versions of Stein have also been a constant on the show, so it makes sense for one to arrive now just as the present day Martin has perished.

Just about every one of the Legends has tried to change time to save a loved one, so it makes sense that Jax would be tempted to follow suit. How things will play out and what Constantine’s role in all of it is will likely set up a dramatic cliffhanger for the midseason finale.
