Legends of Tomorrow really cleaned house at the end of their first season. Having killed off Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, big bad Vandal Savage, and sent Kendra and Carter away on an extended vacation, season 2 has room to explore new possibilities. Some of those new possibilities include the arrival of Rex Tyler/Hourman, a member of the Justice Society of America, who had been sent through time to save the Legends from certain death.
Introducing the JSA was a bold move for Legends of Tomorrow and hopefully broadening their DC character base will serve to retain a more invested audience. Joining Hourman (Patrick J. Adams), Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), and Citizen Steel (Nick Zano) as members of the JSA will be Stargirl, Obsidian, and Dr. Mid-Nite (none of which have been cast just yet). Having revealed that the 1940s will be a prominent time period in season 2, fans can expect more than just cameo appearances from the JSA.
Executive producer and co-creator, Marc Guggenheim, is just as excited about this new journey as the fans are. He's even revealed a first look at the JSA's new logo via Twitter. It's quite different from the original, but still features plenty of Americana nostalgia. See for yourself below:

We know that the series is moving away from the singular villain focus it used in the first season by pitting the JSA against the Legion of Doom. The Legion will include the familiar Arrowverse faces of Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), and Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller). The last two actors have the freedom to move about the Arrow-verse as series regulars across all four shows thanks to newly inked contracts.
In the Legends of Tomorrow trailer that was released during San Diego Comic-Con, fans got to meet Citizen Steel and had the chance to see Sara (Caity Lotz) come face-to0face with her sister's murderer, Damien Darhk.
Perhaps some of the biggest questions are centered around whether or not Flashpoint will have a major effect, and how many other versions of the JSA could be present throughout the Arrowverse. We've seen hints at JSA members across all three series, and with the news that one of the major crossovers centers around Supergirl on Earth 2, JSA possibilities look promising.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same time slot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
