Legends of Tomorrow was canceled after seven seasons, but the show can still have some sort of closure thanks to The Flash. Unlike Arrow and The Flash, both of which knew in advance what their final seasons would be, Legends of Tomorrow did not plan for season 7 to be the show's ending. The Arrowverse has faced a series of cancelations since "Crisis on Infinite Earths," and now The Flash is the only remaining show set on Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime. With the franchise that began with Arrow seemly heading toward its ending, it would be a mistake not to give Legends of Tomorrow’s characters a proper ending.

Now that Superman & Lois has been confirmed as non-Earth-Prime, it is up for The Flash season 9 to give the Arrowverse some sort of send-off. Although "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and Arrow season 8 both felt like a love letter to the franchise, there are still a few unresolved Arrowverse plotlines. Diggle’s potential Green Lantern transformation and what happens to the Legends after Legends of Tomorrow season 7’s finale are some examples. Although The Flash’s final season cannot be expected to be an Arrowverse epilogue, it does have the opportunity to wrap up open storylines such as the fate of the Legends of Tomorrow characters.

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 7 Ended On A Massive Cliffhanger

legends of tomorrow season 7 finale perfect ending

After defeating Evil Gideon and saving history once again, it seemed like the Legends were close to their happy ending. However, Legends of Tomorrow season 7’s finale ended with the arrival of Booster Gold, DC’s time traveling superhero whose role in Legends of Tomorrow had been theorized since the beginning of the show. Legends of Tomorrow’s Booster Gold arrival by itself was enough to set up a continuation, yet the season 7 finale had an even bigger cliffhanger – the Legends were arrested for their crimes against time. With Legends of Tomorrow now canceled, what will happen to the Legends is an Arrowverse question that remains unanswered

How The Flash Season 9 Can Give Legends Of Tomorrow A Proper Ending

Batwoman, which was canceled along with Legends of Tomorrow, is being revisited in The Flash season 9. Ryan Wilder actor Javicia Leslie will reprise her role as Batwoman in The Flash season 9, but with a twist – The Flash’s final season is adapting the “Batman meets Flash” villain Red Death. Although that is not necessarily the best send-off for Batwoman, it at least offers viewers the chance of saying goodbye to an important Arrowverse character. Something similar can be done for the Legends of Tomorrow, many of which have been part of the Arrowverse since its inception. Sara Lance, for example, even precedes Barry Allen.

A The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow crossover would not be an easy thing for the former to pull off. The Flash season 9 has to conclude the stories of Barry Allen and Team Flash, meaning that there might not be enough time to bring the Legends of Tomorrow back for a special arc. According to The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, “that’s not something that is very easy to do.” However, The Flash season 9 could still give Legends of Tomorrow a proper ending simply by resolving the Booster Gold cliffhanger. Flash or any other character could reveal whether the Legends have escaped, thus avoiding an underwhelming open ending.
