The CW’s Arrowverse is certainly one of the most interesting franchises of the modern day when it comes to the small screen. Kicking things off with Arrow back in 2012, the superhero series has now seen spin-offs including The Flash and Supergirl, as well as DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Bringing all of the characters involved in those shows together in groundbreaking crossovers, they’ve managed to amass a loyal and weighty fan base and continue to entertain audiences each year as renewals come in thick and fast.

In the past few weeks, Legends writers have hinted at a number of exciting developments following the second season’s wrapping of filming, including the teasing of Laurel Lance’s return to the franchise in the finale, as well as an appearance from a fictional J.R.R. Tolkien.

Now, thanks to The CW, we’ve got our hands on a synopsis for penultimate Season 2 episode, ‘Doomworld’, which reveals some key details:

“BETRAYALS – After obtaining the Spear of Destiny, the Legion of Doom rewrites reality, leaving the Legends changed, perhaps forever. Frightfully, the Legends’ and the world’s hope rests with Rory (Dominic Purcell), but being the “hero” is not easy for him. Meanwhile, there is tension within the Legion of Doom and the reason why the Spear of Destiny needs to be destroyed is revealed. Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Arthur Darvill, Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh, Nick Zano and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Mairzee Almas directed the episode written by Ray Utarnachitt & Sarah Hernandez.”

Actor Brandon Routh adds of the March 28 episode in a brief chat with EW:

“For the Legends, it’s very different. None of us have our abilities and powers. Ray is a janitor for S.T.A.R. Labs, and the world is being run by insane crazy people. So, yeah, it’s a bit of the worst nightmare.”

Based on these teases, Doomworld could be the most dangerous environment the unlikely heroes have been thrust into, with the new reality having them unable to fall back on their usual powersets and still facing one of their toughest tests to date. Seeing how Heat Wave deals with having to lead the charge against the forces of evil the group are up against will be particularly interesting, especially with the threat of life-changing evolutions for the characters.

The end of the current season of Legends is now looming as the weeks tick by, and things are really amping up; the next episode takes viewers back in time to the 1960s, bringing a returning Captain Cold to the Legion of Doom and seeing the gang go up against super villain Eobard Thawne and his cronies once more, with 'Doomworld' two weeks later.

Legends of Tomorrow continues Tuesday, March 14 with ‘Moonshot’ at 9pm on The CW.
