There might not be a Nintendo Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in the works after all, at least not according to the head of developer Tantalus Media. Despite Twilight Princess’s infamously slow start, the game is looked back on fondly as one of the best entries in the long-running series, with characters like Midna, Wolf Link, and the villainous Zant continuing to be the subject of creative fanart and cosplay. Released for both the Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Wii in 2006, Twilight Princess served as a darker reimagining of the Zelda franchise.

In 2016, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was ported to the short-lived Nintendo Wii U with new HD graphics and touchscreen controls by Tantalus. Recent rumors have also suggested that Nintendo could be getting ready to release new Nintendo Switch ports of both Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker, especially after the currently unnamed sequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was delayed until some time next year. However, Tantalus itself has just confirmed that this isn’t the case, at least not with Twilight Princess.

According to Nintendo Everything, Tantalus CEO Tom Crago recently stated that his company hasn’t yet been contacted by Nintendo to work on a new Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, effectively shooting down rumors that such a project is already in development. He notes that a Twilight Princess port “hasn’t been a priority for Nintendo,” and that Tantalus has often been notified in earnest whenever Nintendo has an idea for a new Zelda port - as was the case with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. However, Crago also says that his team would jump at any opportunity to work with Nintendo on one of their games, Twilight Princess included.

The Legend of Zelda Design Ranked Zelda Twilight Princess

As mentioned before, the recent delay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has left a noticeable gap in Nintendo’s 2022 release schedule, although there are whisperings that Nintendo is still planning to make some sort of new Zelda announcement by the end of the year. This has left some fans hopeful after last year’s disappointing Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary, which didn’t see any new Zelda game debuts. However, several older Zelda titles were made available to play through the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack – such as the fondly remembered Ocarina Of Time and Majora’s Mask for the N64.

Unfortunately for Legend of Zelda fans that were looking forward to re-experiencing Twilight Princess on the Nintendo Switch, it appears that such a port isn’t in the cards at the moment. While Tantalus might very well be contacted to bring The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess to the Switch at some point - assuming that Nintendo doesn't decide to hire another studio to work on the rumored port - it hasn't been approached for a current-gen update to Link's foray into the Twilight Realm yet.
