Popular streamer Rudeism is currently playing through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on none other than a bespoke controller made from a literal ocarina. New Zealander and Twitch up-and-comer Rudeism has taken Nintendo’s seminal 3D adventure to another level with his creativity and panache, the likes of which perhaps no one else has even attempted before.

Streamers are constantly finding inventive ways to prolong the entertainment value of theirs and viewers' favorite video games, and The Legend of Zelda series is always a popular choice for in-game shenanigans. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 is especially common due its age, status as a beloved classic, and wide array of mods when emulating it on PC. With his novel method of switching things up by building wacky, one-of-a-kind controllers to use during his streams, it was only a matter of time until Rudeism turned the retro game's most iconic item and mechanic on its head.

Rudeism revealed to his wider Twitter audience that he's recently been streaming a playthrough of The Legend of ZeldaOcarina of Time using a real-world ocarina, having modded the game to respond to his inputs based on the notes he plays. Despite not having a musical background,  Rudeism negotiates Hyrule with his ocarina with surprising skill, even if it doesn't sound particularly impressive. His endeavor's made even more admirably ridiculous by the fact that he has to play while inside of his car, as it's not acoustically viable to play indoors. With sensitive audio inputs, he has to be careful, demonstrated by him briefly speaking to his viewers somehow resulting in Link producing his pocketed Cucco. Then there's the matter of stamina; watching Rudeism continuously exhale to cross wide gaps like Hyrule field will likely make vanilla gamepad players feel fortunate by contrast.

While Rudeism clearly takes great joy in making new and often ludicrous controllers for his streams, there is more to his craft than just making people laugh. Rudeism consistently supports Able Gamers, a US charity that helps to improve the lives of gamers who live with disabilities. His skill at producing modified controllers can go a long way in helping everyone enjoy the wonders that are video games, no matter what their background.

With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time widely viewed as one of the greatest video games off all time and next year marking the franchise’s 35th anniversary, there will certainly be plenty more to keep streamers, modders, and Zelda fans entertained coming as the wait for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's sequel continues. It will be fantastic to see where the next bit of creativity leads and what new avenues open up to the gaming community and their ever innovative minds.
