Since launching all the way back in 1986 for the humble NES, Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series of RPG-adventures span many games across all of Nintendo's platforms, and there's even an animated series (although that is probably best forgotten). Most of the games are highly acclaimed and fans intensely look forward to every new entry.

However, the one frustrating secret at the heart of The Legend Of Zelda is that, despite being in the title, Princess Zelda isn't the main character, Link is. Nevertheless, over the 35 years the series has been around there have been many Zeldas with different personalities, and many of them correspond well to Zodiac signs.

Aries: Super Smash Bros Zelda

Super Smash Bros Zelda

The predominant personality trait of an Aries is anger, which goes hand-in-hand with a desperate need to win at all costs. While there are a few potentials in various Legend of Zelda games, this neatly sums up the Princess Zelda seen in the Super Smash Bros fighting game series.

While the actual version of the character varies from game to game, this remains a Zelda who values fighting above all else and will never stop until her opponents are defeated - even if they're her friends. Never mess with an Aries.

Sleeping Zelda 2

If there's one thing a Taurus can't stand, it's change. Therefore, it may be a surprise that the Princess that most embodies Taurus is the one from the most unique entry in the series, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

It's the only game in the main series with a 2D side-on view, which is completely different from the original game and every one since, which is why this Taurus Zelda chose not to deal with it at all and slept through the whole thing. Taurians also love to stay at home and be comfortable and consistent, which is why staying in bed until after Ganon's defeat is a good idea to this Zelda.

Gemini: The Animated Series Zelda

Animated Series Zelda

It's not the most hated Legend of Zelda media property, but The Animated Series from the late '80s/early '90s is hardly the most beloved either. This primarily comes down to the characterization of the lead heroes, Link and Zelda.

Link is arrogant, selfish, and deeply annoying. Zelda comes off a lot better, for the most part. She's intelligent, charismatic, take-charge, funny (if sometimes a little sarcastic), and can talk her way out of anything. These are all classic Gemini traits, and another is using arguing as their way of flirting, which cartoon Zelda definitely does too.

Cancer: Breath Of The Wild Zelda

One of the worst things about being a Cancer is that people under this sign take the weight of the world on their shoulders. Every decision weighs on them, they're consistently questioning whether they're doing (or have done) the right thing, and they take on other people's problems too, without trying to burden anyone else.

This aptly describes the pre-Calamity Ganon Breath of the Wild Princess Zelda, or alternatively the one in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. This Zelda feels she is the only one who can stop Ganon, and afterward, she blames herself for her failure.

Leo: Skyward Sword Zelda

Skyward Sword Zelda

Much like the rest of the game, Zelda's appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a little different. As the game is a prequel to the rest of the series, Zelda isn't a princess and is more of a regular girl than she is in other titles.

However, what shines through Skyward Sword's Zelda is her warmth, creativity, and desire to show off her talents to others. When the player meets Zelda at the start of the game, she's playing the harp and preparing to star as the Goddess Hylia in a play. She's a Leo, through and through.

Virgo: Hyrule Warriors Zelda

Zelda as seen in Hyrule Warriors smiling slightly and looking straight ahead.

If there's one great thing about Virgos, it's that they're extremely selfless, sometimes to a fault. They always want to fix the lives of those around them, even at the cost of their own, and they'd never let someone pretty little elf-boy do all the work saving the kingdom without getting their own hands dirty.

The Zelda of Hyrule Warriors is a classic Virgo, leading on the front lines and not being afraid to make a mess or clean up other people's. This Zelda looks after her subjects with a sword in her hand, even at a cost to her own relationships.

Libra: Spirit Tracks Zelda

Spirit Tracks Ghost Zelda

First, it's important to note that the Zelda of Spirit Tracks is not the same as Tetra/Zelda of The Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass, despite the game having the same aesthetic. This Zelda, unfortunately, dies very soon into the game, but accompanies Link on his adventure as a ghost companion.

This is a much more helpful Zelda who refuses to stay at home or get kidnapped, but one who doesn't like to be alone, refuses to fight, and cares about other people more than herself. This Zelda is a Libra, and like most Libras, she's one big question mark. In this case, is she alive or is she dead?

Scorpio: Ocarina Of Time Zelda (Or Sheik)

Ocarina Of Time Zelda Sheik

It's not entirely fair to say so, but Scorpio is probably the coolest star sign, or at least the one that's the most broody. They're the silent loners standing in a corner in a leather jacket, with eyes that stare into everyone's soul, spending their lives in the shadows.

This doesn't necessarily correspond to Zelda in Ocarina of Time, but it certainly applies to her alter-ego Sheik, the closest thing to Batman or Shadow The Hedgehog that the Zelda series has. As Sheik, Zelda becomes a badass ninja who saves Link on numerous occasions before slinking away into darkness.

Sagittarius: Wand Of Gamelon Zelda

Wand Of Gamelon Zelda

Suffice to say, the Legend of Zelda games developed by Philips for its CD-i system are some of the worst games ever made. Poor controls, odd gameplay, and ridiculous animated cutscenes have made the likes of Zelda: Wand Of Gamelon infamous the world over.

Nevertheless, they do represent the only games where Zelda is the main playable character, and more than that, she's clearly a Sagittarius. They have a deep desire to explore the world, are reckless, wise, courageous, loud, and are happy to face the truth with a weapon in hand. In this Zelda's case, that truth is that she's in a very bad game.

Capricorn: Twilight Princess Zelda

Twilight Princess Zelda

Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is more serious than any of the others, which makes her a definitive Capricorn.

Capricorns are responsible, feel like they've been a mature adult all their lives, are seemingly emotionless at times, and strongly motivated by duty. All of these apply to this particular Zelda, especially as this is one of the few games where she's shown as a proper ruler rather than heir to the throne - technically she's Queen Zelda, and definitely a Capricorn.

Aquarius: The Wind Waker Zelda

The Wind Waker Zelda Tetra

Aquarius is a sign of both air and water, making it absolutely spot-on for the sailing-based The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and its version of Zelda. Of course, this Zelda mostly appears as the pirate captain Tetra, while keeping her true past a secret.

Aquarians are mysterious, have a need for personal freedom, and are outcasts with a quirky sense of humor. All of this applies to Tetra. They don't hate people or society, they just live for the opposition. She's happy to rescue Aryll or stop Ganondorf, but she won't want to stick around to be part of the new Hyrule. In the end, all she wants is her own little ship and the winds to guide her.

Link To The Past Zelda

Pisces can be considered the Hufflepuffs of the Zodiac. They're a little insecure, mostly because society doesn't appreciate their less-immediately-useful skills of intuition and sensitivity. Throw in the ability to be kidnapped easily and the Princess Zelda of A Link To The Past and its 3DS sequel A Link Between Worlds fits Pisces perfectly.

While she leaves the fighting to Link and the ruling to the King, she does have powers of magic and telepathy, which she uses to help Link in his quest. In the end, what makes a Pisces happiest is being involved in a great fantasy, and they don't come much greater than Zelda's own legend.
