The release of the Breath of the Wild sequel Tears of the Kingdom may still be a long way off even if it does hit its slated date of May 12th, 2023 but that hasn't stopped fans from excitedly discussing the future of the beloved franchise. Though being a Legend of Zelda fan is painful at a time like this, those on Twitter have nearly always found a way to see the fun side. From the quirks of the earlier games to the inevitability of replaying all of Breath of the Wild again, they've found plenty to laugh at about the series in recent years. These are some of their most hilarious tweets.

The Only Way To Deal With The Tears Of The Kingdom Wait

Everyone has games that draw them back in time after time and, for a lot of Zelda fans, it's Breath of the Wild. In the years since it has been released, fans have had plenty of Zelda content to keep them occupied such as Link's Awakening and Cadence of Hyrule but none of them are quite like Breath of the Wild.

That's why it seems almost inevitable that players will be drawn back to the title, especially as Tears of the Kingdom's release gets ever closer. With its rich world and endless things to discover, the world of the game is almost too engrossing which is why it's occupied players for so many hours now.

Breath Of The Wild's Real Length

Breath of the Wild is an iconic game and one of the biggest sources of praise from critics and fans alike was how it handled exploration and side quests. Very little in Breath of the Wild is mandatory, but the game does a ton to reward the player for going the extra mile and doing more in their playthrough.

The downside is that this only makes each playthrough longer, especially if the player commits to some of the more daunting challenges such as collecting all the Korok Seeds. Of course, fans would say it's more than worth it.

Zelda Games Sometimes Have A Learning Curve

From the very first Legend of Zelda title on the NES, when the player was simply handed a sword by an old man and then thrown out into a large dangerous world, the series has had a tradition of leaving the player to fend for themselves somewhat. Although overly enthusiastic helpers became another series trademark, Breath of the Wild is happy to let the player mess up early on.

Breath of the Wild divided fans in some ways but most players appreciated the freedom the game gave the player even if it meant there was a higher chance of making mistakes at the beginning.

The Surprising Perks Of Playing Zelda Games

The Legend of Zelda series is one of the biggest franchises in gaming and the advantages of that include a huge community of fans that constantly put out content surrounding the game. Whilst some of what they make can be truly impressive or charmingly wholesome, sometimes it's just downright hilarious.

Unfortunately, that sometimes means Link ends up being the unfortunate victim, which is the case in a lot of videos showcasing some of the glitches and hacks fans have found that only make the games more entertaining.

The Pain Of Going Back To Older Zelda Games

There will always be debate surrounding which Zelda game is the best, but even the most die-hard Breath of the Wild fans couldn't deny that the older Legend of Zelda titles are worth playing too. From A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, every era of Zelda has been distinctive and groundbreaking.

The only downside is that the older Zelda games inevitably end up showing their age in terms of more technical elements like the controls and camera. In particular, Zelda's first foray into the world of 3D graphics certainly doesn't have the technical polish of Breath of the Wild, and it can take a little adjusting to.

Zelda's ReDeads Are Still Terrifying

The Legend of Zelda games have their fair share of scares, from creepy graveyards to bosses that wouldn't be out of place in a horror movie, but there's one thing that outshines them all in terms of producing sheer dread in the player. Anyone who played through Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker when they were younger would likely agree that it's the ReDeads.

Though their appearance is sinister enough, it's the bloodcurdling scream they let out when they see Link and the fact that the player is literally frozen to the spot helpless to resist their suffocating embrace that meant few could forget the creatures afterwards.

The Only Difference Is How Much Better Skyward Sword Looks Now

Whilst there has been plenty of debate in recent years about how much time should pass before a game is remade in light of The Last of Us: Part 1, most would agree that a decade is more than long enough for a game to earn a visual upgrade, even when the original was as beautiful as Skyward Sword.

For many, the only hard part was accepting that it's already been over a decade since Link's previous adventure arrived on the Wii and got so many permanently hooked on the Zelda franchise ever since. Other than that, the HD remasters have only been a blessing for Zelda fans.

Skyward Sword Needs Some Disclaimers

Its arrival on Switch last year means many who never got to play Skyward Sword during its original release finally have the chance now, but it's important that Breath of the Wild fans coming to the title to pass the time until Tears of the Kingdom arrives understand that it's not exactly a perfect game.

Though its heavy use of exposition, much more linear nature, and the ever-divisive presence of Fi are some of its most talked-about issues, one of its most hilarious eccentricities is the number of times it reuses the same boss fight against the monstrous Demise. Even those who find it an enjoyable fight might well end up bored of it by the end.

The Legend Of Zelda's Most Notorious Dungeon

For every player that complains Ocarina of Time's infamous water temple really isn't that bad, there are at least a dozen other players with horror stories about being stuck in its winding corridors and forced to give up as a result. Some even claim the dungeon is so bad it ruins the game.

That's why fans of the game often don't mention the temple when recommending the game to new players, instead focusing on the aspects of the game's design that were groundbreaking and made it a masterpiece of its time.

Zelda's Lovable Mascots

Though they might not have been quite as cute in their appearance in Breath of the Wild, fans were still delighted by the fact that the leaf-based Koroks made an appearance in the game. Small and enigmatic, many found the creatures adorable when they appeared in the already very cute Wind Waker.

One of the oddities that have helped make the games so compelling across the years is that they always seem to produce some adorable new creature or mascot to appreciate and fans will be hoping that trend only continues with Tears of the Kingdom.
