Dark Horse Comics have made the move from Facebook Live to Twitch with a live-reading of The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars featuring the voice talent behind the hit animated series from Nickelodeon. The Dark Horse Twitch channel promises weekly updates on new releases with host Cara O’Neil and exclusive content from the publisher’s own trademarked properties and licensed titles - including the new live reading.

Twitch is a web-based streaming portal, available as an official app for mobile devices and gaming platforms. Millions of users stream everything from League of Legends, Fortnite, Dungeons and Dragons and, most recently, the cult-hit Animal Crossing - and are joined by eager fans and subscribers populating chat rooms and sharing experiences in a massive online community. In addition to gaming, Twitch features unique programming such as music casts, talk shows, esports and competitive athletics, and special broadcast events. The tectonic-shift in content delivery in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic has highlighted the inherent promise of the streaming service and publishers once reliant on print are bringing their creativity to the digital platform. This week Dark Horse Comics is reawakening its Twitch channel and celebrates with a live-reading from The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 1 with voice actors from the Nickelodeon series.

The Legend of Korra found a home at Dark Horse Comics and the collected story arcs Ruins of the Empire and Turf Wars represent an official continuation of The Legend of Korra animated series in comic form. To celebrate the launch of Dark Horse’s new Twitch channel, a special live comic reading from the graphic novel The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 1 featuring Janet Varney and Seychelle Gabriel, the voice talent behind Korra and Asami on Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra Animated Series, is now available for streaming.

In See What's New from Dark Horse Comics!, also available on the new channel, host Cara O’Neil explains that moving away from their weekly Facebook Live streams is “something we’ve wanted to do for a while now“ and that Twitch is “obviously the place to be.” Dark Horse is no stranger to streaming entertainment and, having partnered with gamers Critical Role to publish their comics and an upcoming art book, they host the wildly-popular streamers on Thursdays for live broadcasts and “Talks Machina,” with Critical Role cast members chatting about their misadventures on the hit show. And O’Neil promises that Dark Horse will be returning with a New Comic Book Day Twitchcast, “such as it is now during the Coronavirus shutdowns,” and that, during current mandatory-hiatus, the comic publisher wants “to make sure we’re bringing as much content to you as we can.” True to that promise, Dark Horse Comics is also offering free access to a special excerpt from the digital comic The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 1 for fans to “follow along with Janet Varney and Seychelle Gabriel, the incredible voice talent behind Republic City’s sweethearts Korra and Asami."
