The CW ordered Legacies season 3 way back in January 2020, so fans are naturally anxious about new episode details. Created by Julie Plec as a spinoff of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, the fantasy series stars Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, a teenage student with a powerful bloodline. Legacies season 2 aired from October 2019 to March 2020.

Legacies season 2 revolves around the hell dimension Malivore, with the collective 16 episodes building to a wild ending involving Hope, Josie Saltzman (Kaylee Bryant), and Josie's sister twin sister Lizzie (Jenny Boyd). Due to COVID-19 delays, the Legacies season 2 finale wasn't originally intended to close the second series installment, but does indeed have not one, but two cliffhangers. First, however, there's a battle of wills as the dark version of Josie controls the "Merge." Meanwhile, the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) kills and reanimates students from he Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.

The Legacies season 2 finale included a sham funeral, a misogynist pig, a dream within a dream, and lots of boasting from the Necromancer. Plus, MG (Quincy Fouse) mans up and stands up for one of the Saltzman twins. Here's everything we expect for Legacies season 3 on The CW.

Legacies season 3 will reportedly premiere in January 2021. The CW's new schedule differentiates from the first two seasons, both of which debuted in October. Due to the series popularity, not only amongst The CW viewers but also for Netflix subscribers, it makes sense to have Legacies season 3 premiere as soon as possible. If 16 new episodes are produced, then the fourth series installment will air from January to May 2021, and without a one-month winter break like the first two seasons.

Production was halted for Legacies season 2 in March 2020, so "Facing Darkness is Kinda My Thing" was forced to become the season finale. Thankfully, it's a good end for the season, as Lizzie fakes her death and speaks at her own funeral — a clever attempt to throw off the Necromancer. As it turns out, though, dark Josie recognizes that's something not quite right within her mind — not only has Hope been temporarily transferred there, but good Josie has created a fantasy world in which she's a tough-talkin' pig. Ultimately, good prevails over evil as Josie accepts that she can be both powerful and a positive influence on others. Unfortunately for Landon (Aria Shahghasemi), he wasn't revived by the Necromancer, and Hope remains sleeping.

Moving forward, Legacies season 3 will theoretically begin strong with episodes that could have capped off the second season. So, expect Josie to save the day by bringing Hope back to reality. The wildcard, it seems, is whether or not the Necromancer will honor his deal with Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith), and bring Landon back.
