Each of the shows that have taken place within The Vampire Diaries universe shined for many reasons but a consistent one is the fact that they all boast interesting and complex characters. These big ensembles are often broken down into smaller groups for specific episodes, leading to memorable pairings.

That's certainly the case for the current spin-off, LegaciesThe duos in the show are great for different reasons. Some are wholesome friendships, some are tightly bonded siblings, others are romantic interests, and a few are even enemies. Regardless, when these characters are together, Legacies is usually at its very best.

Alyssa Chang & The Necromancer

The Necromancer talks to Alyssa in Legacies

One of the funniest things about this series is that The Necromancer (Ben Geurens) was first laughed at by the main characters, yet he has stuck around as a recurring villain. After tormenting the characters for most of the show, The Necromancer formed an unlikely partnership with student Alyssa Chang (Olivia Liang).

Alyssa was something of the mean girl at the Salvatore School, so her working with such a villain wasn't totally surprising, just unexpected. Although their partnership didn't last long, it was entertaining as Alyssa showed that she wasn't intimidated by The Necromancer. It made for a fun dynamic even if it was only a few episodes.

Hope Mikaelson & Lizzie Saltzman

Hope and Lizzie in Legacies

The relationship between Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) and Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd) is a contentious one. For most of season 1, Lizzie comes across as a brat who is jealous of the attention that Hope often gets, specifically from her own father. However, that changed over time.

Lizzie softens as a person and becomes more likable while understanding that things aren't always so simple for Hope. They have an interesting connection and have gone on several adventures together including taking on a gremlin and being trapped in an alternate version of the 1980s.

Finch Tarrayo & Josie Saltzman

Josie kisses Finch in Legacies

One of the newest characters in the series, Finch Tarrayo (Courtney Bandeko) started out as a student at Mystic Falls High. She caught the eye of Josie Saltzman (Kaylee Bryant), who was just trying to live a normal life after her Dark Josie era. Of course, nothing is ever that simple in this universe.

Finch turned out to be a werewolf and both ladies eventually attended the Salvatore School. Their romance is adorable as it's nice to see Josie happy and Finch has come out of her shell more with the relationship. They also have helped each other through some tough times and since getting together, things are better for both.

Landon Kirby & Rafael Waithe

Rafael talks to Landon in Legacies

When the show begins, Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) works with Hope to recruit Rafael Waithe (Peyton Alex Smith) to the Salvatore School because he's a werewolf. All goes well except that Rafael wants to bring his foster brother Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) with him, though they believed he was human.

Landon ended up being a phoenix and was taken into the school. During that time, not much could break the bond he had with Rafael. They were there for each other at every turn, even when they had romantic eyes for the same girl. When it came time for Rafael to live in a prison world, not being with his brother anymore was the toughest part.

Hope Mikaelson & Landon Kirby

Hope and Landon in Legacies

A lot of the show is centered around the relationship between Hope Mikaelson and Landon Kirby. They do clearly love each other but some of their aspects leave a lot to be desired. For example, Hope is very overprotective of Landon. It's understandable that she has lost a lot in her life but she takes it too far, which upsets Landon.

It could also be seen as unhealthy how much they're often willing to risk everything, including the fate of the town (and sometimes the world) just to save each other. Still, while they may not be the best couple, they are a compelling duo who are often involved in high stakes situations.

Alaric Saltzman & Hope Mikaelson

As noted, things are sometimes difficult for the Saltzman twins because of the bond their father shares with Hope Mikaelson. Alaric sees Hope as a daughter as well, having been an important parental figure to her since both her mother and father died years ago.

That father/daughter relationship is pivotal to the series and drives a lot of the storylines for both of them and the Saltzman twins. Alaric is also the one who trains Hope in certain activities and is there to help her control her immense power. Without Alaric around, Hope would have no true parent in her life.

Lizzie Saltzman & Milton Greasley

Lizzie sits with MG in Legacies

TV shows love a good "will they/won't they" romance and a huge aspect of that is when one character pines after another. That's how things were for MG (Quincy Fouse) in the early stages of Legacies, as he wanted nothing more than to be with Lizzie Saltzman but she didn't see him in that light.

Eventually, she finally realized that she did like him and appreciated how he treated her but it was seemingly too late. This kind of plot is always interesting to see unfold and these two work well together. Even when they aren't on the same page romantically, they make good partners.

Lizzie & Josie Saltzman

As the twin daughters of Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes, it makes sense that Lizzie and Josie are a central part of this spin-off series. Their dynamic is one of the most intriguing around as they love each other but can be antagonistic towards one another. For example, Josie often put her happiness aside and did things to please her sister.

Lizzie took advantage of these situations and it drove a wedge between them. They also had to deal with the impending Merge where only one twin would be able to survive. Through it all, their connection remained strong, they got through the Merge, and they've helped each other become better people.

Kaleb Hawkins & Milton Greasley

It's no secret that powerful females are at the forefront of this series in Hope, Josie, and Lizzie. Going back further into the franchise there's also Caroline, Elena, Katherin, Rebekah, Bonnie, and more. However, it's two guys who have arguably the best friendship on Legacies.

MG and Kaleb Hawkins (Chris Lee) formed an almost instant friendship that has only gotten stronger over the years. MG helped Kaleb through some rough patches like feeding on humans and issues with Cleo, while Kaleb was through for MG through his ripper moments.

Hope Mikaelson & Josie Saltzman

If you look at almost any conversation on the web about Legacies, you'll likely run into plenty of fans who adore the pairing of Hope Mikaelson and Josie Saltzman. Although they work incredibly well when they're out fighting Malivore monsters together, it's the potential romance that has fans wanting more.

Both Josie and Hope admitted to having crushes on the other and their chemistry is the most electric on the show. An alternate wish universe even showed them flirting and it was a highlight of the show. Combine how much fans ship them with their strength as witches and they're the ultimate power duo.
