The first new Left 4 Dead 2 update in years has gotten a second teaser trailer from its developers, as the community-made update The Last Stand begins to near its unknown - but "coming soon" - release date. The last major, official Valve update for Left 4 Dead 2 was many years ago, and while the game has continued to receive the minimum amount of care in the form of updates addressing various bugs or glitches, fans have been desperate for more content from the popular multiplayer title - or, if no updates are planned, at least a commitment to a Left 4 Dead 3 at some point.

As Left 4 Dead 2 is a Valve title, however, fans have resigned themselves to the fact they may never see a third instalment in the series despite its overwhelming popularity at its peak. As if often the case with passionate PC fans, Left 4 Dead 2 has been kept alive thanks to the dedication of its supporters, and the 2009 title was recently revealed to be getting its first new "official" update in years. It's official only in the sense that Valve has signed off on it and is supporting its creation, however - the actual new Left 4 Dead 2 updateThe Last Stand, is being built out by a community-made development team. Valve has okayed fan-made mods and launches before, as it did in 2012 when Left 4 Dead 2: Cold Stream was released.

The new Left 4 Dead 2 update has been getting a fair bit of attention after its initial trailer showcased a strong aesthetic and polish, and the latest The Last Stand teaser trailer continues that trend. In a new YouTube video posted by developer JAiZ, the upcoming update reveals a familiar face in the form of Left 4 Dead 2's Bill Overbeck, surrounded by the downed corpses of zombies, trademark cigarette dangling from his mouth and axe in hand. Once again, the update has impressed with some clean presentation, though there still isn't much known about how actual gameplay will look and feel.

It's also worth noting that JAiX expands on what fans can expect in the comments section of the The Last Stand Left 4 Dead 2 teaser trailer. In the update, JAiX states that The Last Stand will contain a brand new campaign from a mapping team that has previously worked on popular workshop campaigns like Dark Carnival: Remix. JAiX also teased more than the campaign, stating that "this new campaign is not the only thing to look forward to; we had many other talented individuals in our team!"

If the new Left 4 Dead 2 update is bringing more with it than just an already intriguing campaign, it could serve to revitalize a now-forgotten classic that many newer players may have never heard of. If its well-received and revives the game's multiplayer community as a result, that could also be the final push for Valve to finally consider making Left 4 Dead 3 - although, given how reluctant the company has been to make Half-Life 3, there might not be a metric in the world to get it to consider a sequel to a more niche, but still great, multiplayer co-op experience.
