Dale Dickey has opened up about Amazon's A League Of Their Own series, hinting at her character's role and the remake series' story. The original 1992 sports comedy-drama told the story of the formation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II. Created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, the series will feature new storylines and characters.

Released in 1992, A League Of Their Own saw Lynn Cartwright's Dottie Hinson reflects on her younger days in 1943, where her younger self (Portrayed by Geena Davis) is approached by Jon Lovitz's baseball scout Ernie Capadino. Capadino asks Dottie to join the newly formed All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II. The catcher then joins the Rockford Peaches, with the film following the team through their career. A commercial and critical success, A League Of Their Own is a beloved classic, and in 2018, Amazon announced they were developing a TV adaptation that would reimagine the series for a new generation. With the series set to release later in 2022, one of its stars has teased what audiences can expect.

When speaking to Screen Rant about her role in Damien Power's thriller No Exit, Dickey was asked what fans can expect from Amazon's upcoming series. Dickey gave some information on her character, revealing she plays team chaperone Beverly, before elaborating on what the show's story holds. Praising the cast and writing, Dicky stated that the series will touch on social subjects the film didn't expand on, such as a deeper exploration of the treatment of women at the time, and the topic of racial discrimination. Dickey finally revealed that she had enjoyed the production and was proud of the work they did, saying she recently returned to record ADR lines. Check out Dickey's full response below.

"I am so excited about it. I play Beverly, the girls' chaperone, which is another sort of departure role for me. The girls are tremendous. It's great writing. It's funny. It's touching. It deals with a lot of social subjects we didn't deal with, that women went through back at that time, the race issues as well. I'm really proud of it. I've just seen a little bit of it. I've done some ADR for it, but it was a great experience and I think it's gonna be great. Great show. Important show. Fun show."

Fellow cast member D'Arcy Carden previously hinted at the story for the reimagined series in an interview in August 2021. The Good Place star joined the series as part of its pilot episode in 2019 alongside Jacobson, who will star in the series as well as develop it. In the interview, Carden said that while the series was set in the same world as the film, the show featured an all-new cast aimed to go deeper into the storylines, to her delight. Carden, Jacobson, and Dickey will be joined by Kelly McCormack, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Priscilla Delgado, Chanté Adams, Roberta Colindrez, and Melanie Field. Nick Offerman was cast as coach Casey Porter, a role compared to Tom Hanks's Jimmy Duggan in the original film.

With the original film having such value that the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry, Amazon's A League Of Their Own is faced with the pressure of having to live up to its predecessor. However, with its cast emphasizing how the series is more of an expanded reimagining rather than a completely faithful remake, it is possible Graham and Jacobson can create a series that stands out leagues apart from its inspiration. Dickey's suggestion of the series's deeper themes and dedication to exploring social subjects left unexplored by the film could make the series an essential, stand-out show to watch in 2022.
