Prime Video has shared two first-look pictures at the new Rockford Peaches in their upcoming reboot series A League of Their OwnA League of Their Own, which is now a media franchise in its own right, began as a 1992 Penny Marshall film starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, and Lori Petty, loosely adapting the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was created in the early 1940s. A television adaptation of the story was rushed to the screen the following year, starring Sam McMurray, Carey Lowell, and Christine Elise (who has recently been seen reprising the role of Kyle on the Chucky television series), but it only lasted five episodes with the final one remaining unaired.

Now that enough time has passed, Prime Video is stepping up to the plate with a new series adaptation of A League of Their Own, which will premiere on the streaming service later this year. The series was co-created by Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham and stars Jacobson alongside Nick Offerman, Lil Frex, Roberta Colindrez, Kate Berlant, Rae Gray, D’Arcy Carden, Melanie Field, and Molly Ephraim. This show, which will also tell stories more specific to the experiences of LGBTQ+ folks and people of color during the time, will also include a storyline about Black ballplayer Max Chapman, played by Chanté Adams, who recently starred opposite Michael B. Jordan in Denzel Washington's A Journal for Jordan.

EW has just shared a set of exclusive first-look images from A League of Their Own. The first image shows the entire team assembled for the first time, in uniform in the locker room. The second image is more intimate, showing an interaction between Max and her best friend Clance Morgan, played by  Gbemisola Ikumelo (who previously starred in the BBC sketch comedy series Famalam) during what appears to be a lunch break. Check out the images below:

This isn't the first time that Prime Video has adapted a film property into a television series. They have previously put out series based on I Know What You Did Last Summer and Hanna. However, this will be the first time that they have tackled a series with the cultural caché of A League of Their Own. Little is known about the series save for the cast and what's already known about the franchise, but this promising first look gives audiences an idea of what's in store for the upcoming reboot.

Luckily, these photos seem to be capturing the spirit of the period well without sacrificing color and interesting compositions. Hopefully, this approach will also apply to the storytelling. As long as A League of Their Own can capture a vibrant and funny narrative with compelling characters, they can overcome the massive hurdles that come from adapting such a beloved property. One of these hurdles will be updating the series with more modern sensibilities and by all accounts, it sounds like the show may just be able to pull it off.
