Riot Games is partnering with Spin Master to produce a new line of toys based on the League of Legends franchise that will include action figures and role-playing items. Despite the fact that the developer has been involved in a number of controversies this year, the MOBA-style game has remained one of the most popular in the world and continues to dominate the PC market.

League of Legends has become a gaming phenomenon since launching in 2009. It has remained successful for more than a decade and recently set records for having more concurrent players on Steam than the rest of the top ten most-played games combined. Part of that success is down to the fact that Riot Games continues to update the title with a series of new heroes such as Samira, giving players a steady stream of fresh content.

Riot Games and Spin Master will collaborate on a new line of toys based on the League of Legends franchise according to AP News. The partnership will see the manufacturer create a number of different products, including action figures and playsets, with items expected to become available in the second half of 2021. John Blaney, Spin Master’s Senior Vice President of Licensing, said that “Spin Master is excited to collaborate with Riot Games to bring innovation and meticulous attention to detail to the rich characters and unique worlds in League of Legends." Meanwhile, Riot Games director Christian Bayley said that Spin Master "is the perfect partner for the League of Legends franchise" to allow fans to explore the fictional world and its characters further.

Blaney later explained that the toys are being designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, saying:

“Our League of Legends lineup will appeal to fans of all ages, delivering high-quality products on the cutting edge. We look forward to delivering enhanced collectability and unique play experiences for the massive global League of Legends fan base both on and offline.”

The Spin Master collaboration is not the first such deal that Riot Games has penned this year. Earlier this month, the studio revealed that it has agreed to a deal with AAPE to create a fashion line of streetwear featuring styles and designs from League of Legends. Meanwhile, Spotify has also partnered with Riot Games to produce podcasts and audio commentary for all League of Legends events around the world.

The fact that Riot Games has signed another deal to expand the League of Legends franchise outside of the gaming world is not much of a surprise. The studio has partnered with a number of big brands over the last 12 months to take advantage of the game's huge popularity. This latest agreement should allow the developer to cash-in on the success even further and give fans the chance to buy some merchandise so that they can show off their support for the series. Hopefully, the toys themselves won't end up being a disappointment.
