League of Legends is a multiplayer online game and, with the recent release of its hit Netflix show, Arcane, it is reaching its largest audience yet. However, the game has a serious learning curve and it takes a while to pick up what items to buy, what champions to play and how to win.

Senna is a great champion for anyone new to League of Legends who likes to do lots of damage while still playing a safer role. This being said, with a few tips that will make her easier to master, any average player can improve their overall gameplay and be an asset to their team on Senna.

Play As A Support

While Lucian and Senna, who were the faces of the disappointing Sentinels event, are a great combination bot lane, Senna also pairs well with many other bot laners and will scale hardest by letting her laner take all of the minions while she collects souls and stacks her passive.

Because she takes a while to scale and she needs to stay safe, being with another champion just ensures that she won't be constantly engaged on. Though Senna used to be played as a bot laner instead of a support, with the changes in how her passive scales, she does much better in this position overall.

Go First Strike

First Strike is one of the newest runes in League of Legends that came from the preseason 2022 changes and it's extremely strong on Senna, as it increases the damage she deals each time she is the first to initiate champion combat. Not only does this increase her early poke, but it also is a further incentive for her to auto-attack from the furthest distance possible.

Before the introduction of this new rune, Senna was always strong with Glacial Augment before its recent change because it would slow enemy champions and make it easier for her to get another attack off without being in danger of returned fire. First Strike is the better rune now, however.

Use Long Range Poke Early

PROJECT: Senna Skin in League of Legends.

Senna has one of the highest base ranges in League of Legends, the only exception being Caitlyn, who recently got a visual update, and she also scales this ability infinitely as she collects Souls and builds items. Her long-range poke is a huge asset for early poke and late game.

With enough scaling, she can even auto-attack enemy turrets without taking any damage, just like a canon minion with Baron buff. Senna relies heavily on her attack damage and it's important to auto whenever she has a chance after she uses Q or when she roots with her W ability.

Use Q Whenever It's Off Cooldown

Senna uses her Q ability in League of Legends.

Senna's Q deals damage to enemy champions and also heals her for a portion of her own health. While it does use a significant amount of mana, keeping her lane partner practically immune to poke damage with this ability will make it much easier for both her and the bot laner to keep farming and reach level 6 first.

Senna's Q also goes through minion waves and will extend further to hit the champions behind the wave. This means that she can easily do damage to backline champions and also keep them on guard as they wait to see what she will do next.

Take Exhaust Instead of Ignite

Senna Qs Katarina in League of Legends.

Senna should always take exhaust instead of ignite because of her high range. She will rarely, if played correctly, be in range to ignite someone in a fight and exhaust slows an enemy enough that she can get off her last few autos to kill them.

Even if the bot laner chooses not to take heal, Senna's Q means that she can heal and still take exhaust. Exhaust is also a great asset for when the enemy jungler shows up and Senna needs to escape fast, but her E ability is on cooldown.

Capture And Keep Track Of Souls

Senna Close Up in League of Legends.

Senna's passive is that she captures Mist Wraiths or Souls that spawn after the death of a minion, jungle camp or enemy champion and each one grants her increased attack damage. After 20 stacks, each soul also increases her range and critical strike chance.

This passive is part of how Senna scales to the late game and it should be a priority to collect every Soul that she sees. This passive is also a further reason that she should give minions and last hits to her bot laner because it's more likely that Souls will drop from the interaction.

First Buy Divine Sunderer

Senna True Damage Prestige Skin in League of Legends.

Divine Sunderer is an item that Senna should be able to full buy before a game reaches about 20 minutes. It's an anti-tank item that also heals Senna for a percentage of the damage she does. It also has some added magic and armor penetration making it great for late-game tanks, while also giving her a little more sustain.

Senna can also take Kraken Slayer, but, as it stands, Divine Sunderer is just a better overall item as it caters to her squishiness and increases her overall damage to high sustain tanks and fed top laners with overpowered runes, such as a Predator Sett build.

Scale For The Late Game

Senna gameplay in League of Legends

Senna is strong early because of her poke, but her late-game range and infinite scaling capability mean she can auto-attack anyone from outside their ranges. Scaling for the late game, in this case, means that she shouldn't play overly aggressively and never overextend.

As a support, Senna's first priority should be staying on the defensive as she heals her teammates, roots enemies with her W and shields with her Ultimate. Playing safe and on the defensive early, is a really easy way for her to scale so that she becomes more useful in the late game as a champion with high damage and range instead of just a support.

Stay In The Backline

Senna and Lucian in the mist in League of Legends.

Senna's placement is really vital to team fights because she needs to be able to use her ultimate and hit everyone while also healing and dealing damage with her autos in between her abilities.

Staying on the backline means that Senna needs to be aware of her position and where the enemies are. If she is trying to gain more vision in the jungle, Senna needs to be extra sure that she won't be caught out and she should double-check the map to make sure where she will be looking is safe. If this is impossible, she should buy a blue trinket instead of the scanner so she can ward from a further distance.

Ult To Shield Teammates, Not To Steal A Kill

Senna uses her Ult in League of Legends.

Senna's ultimate move has a large width and will cross the entire map in the direction chosen. It will shield all teammates that it touches and, in a smaller sliver in the middle, it will deal slight damage to enemy champions.

While it may be tempting to use this ability to get the last hit on an enemy with low health, it's never worth wasting this ability on one champion when it could be vital to a team fight for jungle objectives like Dragon or Baron. Not to mention, as a support, Senna should try to make sure that her bot laner gets all the kills so that they can both scale harder.
