The League-of-Legends-and-Netflix series Arcane appeared in Among Us through the popular indie game's first-ever cosmetic system, Cosmicube. Arcane is a prequel to the events in Riot Games’ popular MOBA, League of Legends, providing an in-depth origin story for Jinx, Vi, and other franchise characters. The series dives into the conflicts riddling Piltover, a utopian city; and Zaun, the oppressed underground beneath it - all while the creation of Hextech threatens the status quo. The series premiered on Netflix on November 6.
To maximize media attention and celebrate its TV series, Riot organized RiotX Arcane, a crossover event that spans multiple properties. In recent years, crossovers have become a successful marketing strategy for various gaming companies and franchises. Fortnite, for example, shaped itself into an outlet for advertising musicians, comic books, movies, and TV shows, and other games like Fall Guys have utilized strategic partnerships to entice a broader audience. While Among Us hasn’t seen too many crossovers, Innersloth has made conscientious decisions regarding which franchises can use its iconic blob - such as the recent Fall Guys’ Among Us skin that features the look of an Imposter. Recently, a Fortnite and Among Us crossover is underway after Fortnite confirmed it was inspired by Among Us for the former's Imposters Mode. Now Among Us has finally sprung its next big crossover, this time with a Riot IP.
According to a recent press release, Riot Games and Innersloth recently revealed that League of Legends’ Arcane is now in Among Us through the game’s first-ever in-game cosmetics system: Cosmicube. The crossover event brings League of Legends characters Heimerdinger, Jayce and Caitlyn to the social deduction game via unlockable in-game skins. The skins are available through Among Us’s Cosmicube, which is available for purchase today until December 31, 2021. After December 31, the Arcane Cosmicube will vanish and only those who purchased it will have access to its contents. Once purchased, Cosmicube owners can unlock the Arcane cosmetics by obtaining Pods through gameplay.

The list of Arcane cosmetic items is fairly extensive, giving Among Us players several ways to sport their new vanity. The League of Legends Arcane crossover event is not only a way to leverage Riot Games’ new series and potentially fostering an even broader audience for its Netflix series, but it provides new microtransactions for Among Us players. Seeing as the skins don’t offer any pay-to-win mechanics, the newly implemented Cosmicube appears uncontroversial.
The introduction of Among Us’ new Cosmicube via the Arcane crossover hints at future offerings. The Cosmicube acts a bit like a battle pass but allows players to choose what vanity items they unlock first through its branching paths feature. While there is no confirmation regarding what cosmetics will appear in the social deduction game, it’s likely that Among Us will begin to utilize this new Cosmicube in the future.
