Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan has officially been cast as the lead role in the upcoming comedy film Late Bloomers. Outside of her portrayal of Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gillan has also previously been spotted in Doctor Who as the Eleventh Doctor’s companion Amy Pond, as well as Ruby Roundhouse in the sequel films Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. Gillan's portrayal of Nebula has already been seen in five MCU films so far, including the recently released hit Thor: Love and Thunder. Gillan's Nebula will also make an appearance in the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy films in 2023.

Now, it has been announced that Karen Gillan will be taking a seat in the leading role with the upcoming comedy film Late Bloomers, via Deadline. Besides Gillan, Margaret Sophie Stein, Jermaine Fowler, Kevin Nealon, and Talia Balsam will also be among the cast of the upcoming film that has officially wrapped production in Brooklyn, NY.

Late Bloomers is written by Anna Greenfield and directed by Lisa Steen. Late Bloomers will see Louise (Gillan) spark an unlikely friendship in physical therapy after drunkenly breaking her hip. Louise’s new friendship with an elderly Polish woman (Stein) helps spark some inspiration that she desperately needed in her everyday life. Fowler will be portraying Brick, Louise’s Craiglist roommate, with Nealon and Balsam on board as her parents. Although Gillan is no stranger to the big screen, fans of the Scottish actress are sure to be excited to catch the star in a leading comedic role in the upcoming film, Late Bloomers
