The Last of Us Part II is releasing in February, 2020 according to a new rumor, and will reportedly come in four different editions. The highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2013 title was stated to be near the end of its development cycle in May.

The PlayStation 4 is receiving some notable exclusives in the latter half of 2019 and beginning of 2020. Death Stranding and Final Fantasy VII Remake are releasing in the near future, after all. It would not be hyperbole, however, to say the most hyped PlayStation title is The Last of Us Part II. The first was critically acclaimed as one of the greatest games ever made. The sequel was announced in 2016 during PlayStation Experience. There have been sparse major updates since then, and fans have been wondering about the game's release. Recently, a report stated the game was delayed to 2020, but a new leak states fans will have to wait seven short months to play the title.

As shared on the ResetEra forums (via WCCFTech), The Last of Us Part II is rumored to be releasing in February, 2020. The source is apparently the same one that reported Death Stranding's November release before it was confirmed. This same source also reports The Last of Part II will be released in four different editions: Standard Edition, Special Edition, Collectors Edition, and Ellie Edition.

If the leak is accurate, that would mean The Last of Us Part II is releasing two months before Cyberpunk 2077, and one month before Watch Dogs: Legion and Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is also interesting that there are four different editions, according to the rumor. It's hard to imagine what a possible "Ellie Edition" could contain, but it's likely going to be a highly sought after and expensive collector's edition given that there are three other editions available as well. As for when Sony will officially announce the release date, it's highly possible it will be during its next State of Play presentation. Sony did not attend E3 this year, so the company could be saving the announcement for its own presentations.

With Q3 just beginning in the financial year, it's not looking likely that The Last of Us Part II will be released in 2019. The February rumor does make sense, because there are no other massive releases happening that month thus far. Other games in The Last of Us Part II's demographic release in the following months, so it's possible it would have almost all of February to itself. Sony knows fans are excited for the game, so hopefully the company doesn't wait too much longer to announce the launch date.
