Naughty Dog's The Last of Us 2 takes a good length of time to beat, more than the previous entry did. This game is the highly-anticipated sequel to The Last of Us, which originally released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2013. As TLOU was published towards the end of the PS3’s generation, it’s fitting that TLOU2 is releasing months before the holiday arrival of the PS5, giving it an opportunity to hopefully finish the PS4 generation on a high note.

The original game followed Joel as he attempted to safely take Ellie to her next destination. However, Ellie was no ordinary teenage girl, as she appears immune from zombie bites, meaning she may hold the secret to a cure or vaccine for the post-apocalyptic society. The Last of Us Part 2 will continue on with Joel and Ellie's story, and players will be able to learn what the main characters have been up to since the first game’s ending.

Players assumed a third-person perspective in The Last Of Us, and it will be the same in the sequel. Due to the expansiveness of each chapter, the game has an open world feel to it at times, but even though TLOU2 lacks a true open world, it certainly doesn’t lack in things to explore. The Last of Us 2 is nearly twice as big as the first game, and it will take players roughly twice as long to complete.

How Long Is The Last Of Us 2?

The Last of Us Part 2 will take players roughly 25 hours to complete, depending on playstyles. There will be more side-missions and choices for players to make in the sequel as compared to its predecessor, giving players the opportunity to control their character’s actions more so than ever before. In fact, it will be impossible for players to access all of the cut scenes and side missions the first time they play TLOU2, thereby incentivizing them to play the game multiple times over.

The amount of time it takes to complete the game will largely depend on how the player chooses to play. If players do a fair share of exploring and attempt to address every challenge that comes their way, The Last Of Us Part 2 will likely take short of 20 hours to complete. If players attempt to do as much as possible in each chapter or are specifically looking to earn trophies, it will likely take a little longer. Thankfully, The Last of Us 2 gives players the option to return to a specific chapter once they complete it, allowing them to search for secrets or artifacts even after the chapter or entire game is finished. Such a feature is necessary, given that it’s impossible for players to explore everything their first time going through. Players can also select a New Game+ feature once the story as been completed, something which means players won’t need to worry if they miss something during their first attempt, since there will be ample opportunity to backtrack and explore.

How long it takes to complete The Last of Us 2 heavily depends on how the individual player chooses to play the game. However, on average it will likely take most players somewhere between 20-30 hours to finish.
