Cosplayers have captured one of The Last of Us' saddest moments in a shot that honors Joel and Sarah. The Last of Us-inspired cosplay that fans of the series create never ceases to amaze. From Ellie and Dina cosplay to Clicker makeup that looks a little too real, it seems as though TLoU faithful have left no stone unturned. It's fitting, then, that Joel and Sarah count as the latest pair to receive a costumed tribute.

Players spend a very little amount of time with Sarah in the franchise's groundbreaking debut entry. Still, that fleeting prologue sequence perfectly encapsulates why the next couple of decades prove so tortuous for Joel. The father-daughter duo enjoyed a close connection, so much so that both went out of their way to show love to the other. This much even seems evident during scenes where the two are separated. And while the public waits to see how the upcoming Last of Us TV series translates Joel's and Sarah's bond to a new medium, fans of the source material found another way to bring the duo to life.

Late last year, Instagram user MnG Video shared Joel and Sarah cosplay inspired by The Last of Us. The image depicts Sarah (Anna) hanging on to Joel (Gabriel) in a manner similar to what players experience during the first game's prologue section. So moving is the imagery that it recently caught developer Naughty Dog's attention. As a result, the studio shared the incredible cosplay on its official Twitter account. Check out the image in the tweet linked below:

As is usually the case with The Last of Us cosplay, the above manages to capture the franchise's essence incredibly well. Plus, the tenderness of the father-daughter moment matched with the viewer's knowledge of their in-universe fates makes the cosplay that much more impactful. It's no wonder Naughty Dog chose to share the photograph on its official social media pages.

The Last of Us originally hit store shelves for the PS3 in June 2013, then migrated to PS4 with a remaster that enhanced the graphical quality. Rumor has it that Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment plan to release yet another version of the title sometime this year for PS5 hardware. Should such claims prove accurate, TLoU players can anticipate a full remake boasting the technology that powered The Last of Us Part II's incredible visuals and gameplay.
