Fans of The Last of Us are discovering that it's literally impossible to shoot the PlayStation 3 consoles that can be found within the environment of the game. Although not the only PlayStation platform within The Last of Us universe, it appears quite frequently in various homes as it's technically the last home console Sony released in that universe. The console has managed to last through decades of apocalyptic chaos and that may be because it's immune to damage.

Naughty Dog is known for its elaborate attention to detail and The Last of Us 2 is no exception. The game is rich with details, whether they be key discoveries that add narrative significance to the world Ellie inhabits, or just surprising easter eggs for devoted fans to uncover after repeated playthroughs. One such detail pays tribute to the company's legacy via PlayStation consoles and games that can be found throughout the post-apocalyptic world.

That said, Reddit user Affe_Boy__ has discovered that it's not possible to shoot at the PlayStation 3 found within the game, even though the same can't be said for the items surrounding it. There's no clear reason for why this may be, but perhaps it's something Sony enforces when developers ask to include the console in a game. The PlayStation Vita can also be found in The Last of Us 2 and similarly, despite being dropped by a character, it remains undamaged. Naughty Dog is already working on new games, but it remains to be seen if the developer will include cameos of other pieces of PlayStation hardware.

There are actually a handful of things the player can't shoot at in the game, such as items in a synagogue found toward the first few hours of The Last of Us 2. Although the PlayStation 3, by contrast, doesn't have any religious significance, it would make sense for Sony to want to protect the image of the console, even in a violent, zombie-infested game like this one.

Whatever the significance of this strange little detail is, it certainly makes for a bizarre discovery in a much beloved game. The Last of Us 2 has been praised by numerous industry veterans, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake co-director Motomu Toriyama, who loved the game's diversity and inclusiveness, even through gameplay accessibility options. Naughty Dog takes many years to work on singular projects, but these products tend to be met with considerable accolades thanks to these efforts, and every little detail is carefully examined. Although fans may never actually find out why the PlayStation 3 is quite literally invincible in The Last of Us 2, it does demonstrate how much work is put into even the smallest of details in the game.
