Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer for The Last of Us Part 2, has stated the game will be releasing very soon. A few years ago, Naughty Dog officially announced The Last of Us Part 2, but a release date has still not yet been made public. Fans of The Last of Us who have been waiting for the highly anticipated follow-up will recall that the original game launched back in 2013, and centered on a man named Joel as he travels across a post-apocalyptic society with a young girl named Ellie. There have been several rumblings regarding when players can step back into the post-apocalyptic world, and it seems that could be this year.
Despite not having an official launch date, Naughty Dog has released a Last of Us Part 2 gameplay trailer showcasing what players can expect from the game. The Last of Us is recognized as one of the most emotional gaming experiences in recent memory and judging from the promotions for its follow-up, the upcoming sequel will be no different. The Last of Us Part 2 will be set 25 years after the initial outbreak, and five years after the original game. Fans can expect Joel and Ellie to return, with Ellie being the main playable character this time around, but another playable character could be included as well. With so much speculation regarding the game releasing this year, Santaolalla - who worked on the first installment - has now offered an update.
Reddit user DragonDDark, shared a video of Santaolalla saying The Last of Us Part 2 would be coming very soon. After taking center stage during a performance in Kuwait, Santaolalla goes on to tease those in attendance with samples of the supposed soundtrack that could be featured in the upcoming game. Those in attendance, who were presumably fans of the game, began to cheer after Santaolalla made mention of The Last of Us Part 2 "coming very soon."
While that is exciting to hear, fans should remember that Naughty Dog will have to be the one to make an official announcement, and so far that has yet to happen. With many hoping and expecting the game to arrive this year, it is important to remember that changes can always occur. However, if The Last of Us Part 2 were to release this year, it would more than likely be around the holiday season. Adding to that, Santaolalla's comments will certainly restore faith in the game releasing sooner rather than later for players who have been waiting to revisit the world and reunite with Joel and Ellie.
Regardless of the game arriving this year or the year after, gamers will certainly rush to purchase a copy once Naughty Dog decides to release the project. The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most highly anticipated titles in the gaming community, and it seems that with each passing second the anticipation only grows stronger. And, with the six-year anniversary of the original approaching, the arrival of its follow-up would be the greatest anniversary gift to honor the occasion.
