Following the first footage reveal from the coming TV series, The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann takes to social media to tease fans wanting to see a bit more. The upcoming HBO adaptation is based on the 2013 video game of the same name and developed for television by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Druckmann, the latter of which was the creative director for The Last of Us video game. The post-apocalyptic story follows a smuggler named Joel who is tasked with escorting the teenaged Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States.Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey lead the Last of Us cast as Joel and Ellie alongside Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Gabriel Luna as a former soldier and Joel's younger brother, Tommy. The HBO adaptation began filming in July 2021 across various locations in Canada with infrequent updates trickling out through the production process. The mere 20 seconds of footage that was revealed shows Joel and Ellie traveling across a snowy bridge and having an intense conversation about loss before Nick Offerman's Bill was revealed. Echoing Druckmann's sentiment, his fellow Last of Us writer and executive producer, Craig Mazin, also took to Twitter to address the footage reveal, writing "I can't wait to show you all what we've brought to life." Though Mazin and Druckmann's responses were succinct, the takeaway is clear – the first-look footage is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Joel and Ellie's post-apocalyptic adventures.

The first-look footage succeeded in getting fans excited for the HBO adaptation, but it is surely just the beginning of many more enticing looks that are yet to come in trailers, clips, etc. The HBO show is said to be the largest television production ever in the country of Canada and various Last of Us set photos have revealed the ambitious scope and scale of the adaptation which carries a budget of $10 million per episode. The Last of Us is expected to debut in early 2023, so expect many more exciting looks at the show before then.
