Soon after HBO renewed the series, Bella Ramsey shares her hopes and fears for The Last of Us season 2. Starring Pedro Pascal and Ramsey, the new HBO series has received widespread praise for its faithful adaptation of the 2013 video game, The Last of Us. Shortly after its record-breaking premiere and before the acclaimed episode 3 aired, The Last of Us season 2 was renewed by HBO. The show's sophomore run is expected to adapt the events of the second video game, The Last of Us Part II.

Now, shortly after HBO renewed The Last of Us for season 2, Ramsey appears on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz.

While on the podcast, the Ellie actor shares what excites and intimidates her most about the prospect of The Last of Us season 2 already knowing several major developments from the second game. Read what she shared below:

I'm really excited to be honest for the Ellie Dina story. I've watched a cut together, someone's made a phenomenal - I don't know how they do it - like an amazing edit of just like the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina's love story. So I'm excited to play that out. And also the complexity of her relationship with Joel and how that gets decidedly more complex, and I'm looking forward to that. And the violence that ensues is thrilling in a way, to get to maybe explore that in a really safe environment. It will be cool. But I am nervous about it too. Like I'm nervous about, because I know what happens in the second game and I'm nervous about being potentially without Pedro for a while. It's gonna be really sad.

What To Expect From The Last of Us Season 2

One of the biggest takeaways from Ramsey's remarks on what to expect from The Last of Us season 2 is "being potentially without Pedro for a while." Due to major events that transpire in The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is expected to be without Joel for a portion of the second season, allowing the story to be more Ellie-centric. Ramsey also mentions how Joel and Ellie's relationship becomes decidedly complex in the second game, which she is looking forward to in the show, as well as the thrilling violence that ensues as a result of that.

In Joel's absence, a new character named Dina steps up as the deuteragonist of Ellie's story, a relationship that Ramsey is also excited to see play out in the HBO show. Ellie and Dina share a lot of pivotal moments together in the second game, as Ramsey mentions, and it should be very interesting to see this complex relationship unfold on screen. Dina will be one of the most anticipated characters introduced in The Last of Us season 2, along with Abby.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time, and HBO is doing an admirable job adapting it. The Last of Us Part II, on the other hand, makes several choices that are far more controversial, and HBO's adaptation could follow a similar path into its second season if it continues adhering closely to the games. Like Ramsey, audiences can anticipate The Last of Us season 2 with both excitement and apprehension.
