A new behind-the-scenes photo from the set of HBO's upcoming series, The Last Of Us, gives fans a glimpse of Pedro Pascal as Joel. The Last Of Us was originally a video game created by Naughty Dog, and follows Joel Miller as he accompanies a young girl named Ellie across an apocalyptic wasteland, unaware of the fact that she holds the key to a cure for the infected. Fans of the franchise had been calling for an adaptation of the best-selling game ever since its initial release, and were delighted when it was finally announced back in March 2020.

Pascal was linked to the series fairly early on, with many praising the casting of The Mandalorian star due to his striking resemblance to the character. It was also confirmed that Pascal's fellow Game of Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey would helm the role of Ellie, a character who went on to have a considerably larger role in the follow-up game, The Last of Us Part 2. The game's creator, Neil Druckmann, will co-direct the HBO series alongside Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin, with each one of the 10 episodes set to reportedly have an eight-figure budget. Recent images from the set of The Last Of Us revealed the scale of some of the set pieces that have been created to truly give the show the same end-of-the-world feel as the game.

Pascal's costume is pretty much identical to what Joel wears within the game, and the photo certainly confirms that, visually, the actor is an incredibly strong casting choice. The show's production has been kept largely under wraps with very few details having been released at this time, so the photo has certainly got the internet talking. Druckmann recently released an exciting tease of both Pascal and Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, in honor of The Last Of Us day, which was the first official still from the series since production began.

Many were pleased with the confirmation that Druckmann would have a significant presence within the production, and this new set photo is likely to reassure those who still may have had any lingering doubts about Pascal's likeness to Joel. It will certainly be exciting to see what further details and images emerge from The Last Of Us set as production progresses. However, there is no confirmed release date for the series as of yet, and it's rumored that production for the series could continue into mid-next year, so audiences have a little while to wait.
