The Last Of Us: Part II causes the PlayStation 4 Pro's fans to whirr so loudly that players may need to raise the game's volume, reports say. The Last of Us: Part II is the highly-anticipated, sometimes controversial sequel to Uncharted developer Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 hit, The Last of Us. The game tells the story of Ellie and Joel, survivors in post-apocalyptic America after a fungus turns humans into zombie-like monsters. Trailers for the game, along with a television commercial, show the story in Part II will be even more dark and heart-wrenching than the original. Recently, Naughty Dog revealed the game will have over 60 accessibility options.

With the game set to launch on the PlayStation 4, while being compatible with the PlayStation 5 once it releases, fans have started to worry how such a demanding and large game will run on the console's hardware. File sizes can run out frustratingly frequently, especially since a large chunk of free space must be kept for installs; The Last of Us: Part II is confirmed to require two disks, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. Another concern is the PS4's cooling system, which often sounds like a jet engine when playing more demanding games.

Via a Tweet from Washington Post games reporter Gene Park, the PS4 Pro's fans were "louder than [his] air-conditioning unit. They were so loud I had to raise the volume up on my speakers." Park reported the problem still persisted when the game's resolution was lowered to 1080p.

Park went on to clarify that his PS4 Pro makes similar noise for "every huge AAA release," including God of War and Death StrandingIt's currently unknown how bad the fan noise is on the PS4 Slim, but given that it's less powerful than its Pro counterpart, it's likely to be even louder if anything. The PlayStation's fan noise problems are partially caused by dust that falls into hard-to-clean areas of the PS4, but even with clean vents the fans can rev like a jet engine.

The Last of Us came out at the end of the PlayStation 3's life cycle, and raised the bar for what that console could accomplish visually. Its sequel also looks to be a benchmark for graphics on the PS4, but at the cost of an annoying issue that has plagued millions of consoles. It's a sign that the current console hardware can't keep up with today's games, and a new console generation is due. Luckily, they're scheduled to be released this holiday season. Until then, playthroughs of The Last Of Us: Part II will be a little louder than usual.
