Once again The Last of Us 2 has been given a new release date. This time around the game will supposedly be releasing this summer on June 19th. After experiencing issues with development and the COVID-19 epidemic, The Last of Us 2 has been delayed several times. Sony states that the game will release despite current ongoing issues with the pandemic.
This new release date comes hot on the heels of many developments surrounding Naughty Dog's The Last of Us series. Early last month it was revealed that HBO was working on a TV series based on the first game. This has been an incredibly exciting revelation for fans of the series, with many already putting together their own dream cast for the show. Then, yesterday major story details for The Last of Us 2 were leaked online. These leaks have not been officially confirmed, but seem to be legitimate.
Sony confirmed on Playstation.Blog that The Last of Us 2 will now release on June 19th. The company states that Naughty Dog was able to complete work on the survival horror game after having to adapt to new work practices because of the pandemic. The statement also confirms that Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima will release shortly thereafter on July 17th. To finish off the message Sony then thanked PlayStation players for their patience and support during these delays.
Originally The Last of Us 2 was supposed to release last year, but was delayed until May of 2020. The official reason given by Naughty Dog is that it wanted to ensure that the game was completed in its entirety before release without putting undue stress on developers. A month before that May release date Naughty Dog stated that The Last of Us would be delayed again. This time around the company stated that these delays were due to changes in the world and industry related to the COVID-19 outbreak, and no further release date was given.
The Last of Us 2 has shaped up to become one of the most highly anticipated games of all time. The first game was a massive success because of its resonating storyline and intense gameplay. Everything that has been revealed about The Last of Us 2 has lead many to believe that the game will be even better than its predecessor. Hopefully the current release date for The Last of Us 2 is also the last.
The Last of Us 2 will release on June 19, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
