Critical smash-hit The Last of Us: Part 2 will be playable on the PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility, but it will have a few new touches when it comes to the next-gen console. While there won't be any new content, players can expect some enhancements thanks to features offered by the PS5.

Sony has been trying to reassure players that their library of PS4 games will still be playable on the PS5, at one point claiming 99% of all PS4 games would run on the new system. Its reassurances have been a bit undercut by recent reports that a fair number of Ubisoft PS4 games won't work on the PS5. On the other hand, Rockstar confirmed that several of its PS2 titles would be backwards compatible on the PS5, despite Sony's warning that most games made for consoles before PS4 would not run on the system. The fact that Rockstar had made these games already backwards compatible for the PS4 allows them to work on the PS5.

But in cases of newer games, Sony has better news for gamers. In a recent test from GamesRadar, it was revealed that The Last of Us: Part 2 has been enhanced via the DualSense controller. The DualSense controller has resistant triggers when a character is aiming a bow, and firing a weapon results in haptic feedback vibrations. The game also provides haptic feedback when starting boat engines and when the boat hits any items. Lastly, the controller light bar will change color to match the moth on the loading screen, for however briefly it appears.

Does The Last of Us: Part 2 Have Game Boost?

Thus far, The Last of Us: Part 2 has not been one of the games confirmed to be receiving Sony's Game Boost. Game Boost allows certain PS4 titles to run with better frame rates or higher resolution. Ghosts of Tsushima, for instance, has 60 FPS on the PS5, as well as faster loading times. Interestingly, a recent patch for The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 drastically reduced loading titles of the game, with one test showing a new game starting up in 13 seconds, compared to previous launch times of 90 seconds. The Last of Us Remastered was just one of multiple titles that received a patch that made it run faster, and was believed to be part of getting the games ready to run on the PS5.

With new games being delayed left and right due to complications from the pandemic, its nice to see some older titles getting a little plus. Many developers have taken advantage of the DualSense controller's directional haptic feedback to add unique experiences to the PS5. It might not be a huge change to The Last of Us: Part 2, but the new DualSense features are sure to add a touch more tension to the game.
