Who is in The Last Kingdom cast and which characters do they play? Based on Bernard Cromwell’s novel series The Saxon Stories, The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction drama adapted for the small screen by Baghdad Central creator Stephen Butchard. Set during the early Middle Ages, the epic series spans several decades and chronicles one of the most tumultuous periods in British history: the Viking invasion of the country’s Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.

Since its 2015 debut, The Last Kingdom has been praised for its stunning cinematography, richly drawn characters and epic battle scenes. Unfortunately, the series premiered its fifth and final season on Netflix in 2022 but the show is set to continue with a standalone sequel film titled Seven Kings Must Die that’s currently filming on location in Hungary.
