Netflix adds Mark Hamill to the voice cast for The Last Kids on Earth. The animated show is based on the book series created by American author Max Brallier. Hamill is known for portraying Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise.
Thus far, Brallier has released four books in The Last Kids on Earth series, with the latest coming in 2018. The storyline chronicles a zombie outbreak and how 13-year-old Jack Sullivan copes with the conflict. Each book details a battle against a specific monster, along with a being known as Rezzoch. In the coming-of-age story a la Stranger Things, Jack is joined by friends with specific traits: the best friend, the bully, the science enthusiast, the love interest. In February 2018, Netflix officially ordered The Last Kids on Earth season 1, with Atomic Cartoons set to help develop the series.

Per The Wrap, Netflix has enlisted Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, and Rosario Dawson for The Last Kids on Earth. While their characters haven’t yet been confirmed, they will join Bruce Campbell, Montse Hernandez, Keith David, Garland Whitt, and Charles Demers in the main cast. In addition to the iconic Hamill, both O’Hara and Dawson bring industry experience to Netflix’s new animated series. In 1982, the Canadian-American actress O’Hara won her first Emmy Award for her writing on the series Second City Television, which featured John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Harold Ramis. Since 2000, O’Hara has received accolades for her acting work in the feature films Best in Show and For Your Consideration, and she’s also won awards for her lead performance in Schitt’s Creek.
As for Dawson, she’s an accomplished film actress in her own right, but is perhaps best known in pop culture for portraying Claire Temple in Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. The 39-year-old actress is currently filming Zombieland: Double Tap, a sequel to Ruben Fleischer’s iconic 2009 film Zombieland. For The Last Kids on Earth series lead, Nick Wolfhard is set to portray the protagonist, Jack. Wolfhard is the older brother of Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler on the Netflix series, and also stars as Richie Tozier in the Stephen King adaptations It and It: Chapter Two. In the past five years, the elder Wolfhard has voiced characters in the series World Trigger, Beyblade Burst, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Based on the new cast additions, Netflix has ensured wide demographic appeal for their new animated series, which is set to premiere later this year. While The Last Kids on Earth may not match the success of Stranger Things, it could indeed be one of the most popular animated series on the streaming service.
