Despite the negative reviews, the movie Last Christmas is an enjoyable, fun, and memorable movie. While the plot is certainly predictable, the strong performances of the cast, notably Michelle Yeoh and Emilia Clarke, certainly make the film worth a watch (and maybe even a rewatch). The movie perfectly balances thoughtful humor with touching and emotional scenes that are well directed and delivered skillfully by a stellar cast.

There are spoilers ahead, so those who haven't watched the movie, be warned!

This article will list the 1o sweetest moments in Last Christmas.

Matchmaking Kate

Michelle Yeoh in Last Christmas

One of the sweetest (and funniest moments) occurs when Kate sets Santa up with a Danish sauerkraut expert who loves Christmas just as much as Santa. The interactions between Santa and the Danish man (who Santa calls Boy) manage to be both the perfect combination of sweet and funny.

Kate's actions are also a sign that she is starting to be far less selfish, wanting to help those around her and to stop taking her friends for granted.

Final Family Dinner

Emma Thompson in Last Christmas

The family dinner between Kate's family is incredibly sweet and is the perfect ending to the movie. While the family has each been struggling with their own hardships, the familial dinner shows that they are finally growing closer together, rather than further apart.

Further, Marta (Kate's sister) has been in a long term same-sex relationship with Alba but had kept it secret due to fears that she would not be accepted. Alba's attendance at the dinner shows that her relationship is accepted by her family.

Singing For The Homeless

Throughout the movie, it's shown that Kate has been acting selfishly for some time. When she bumps into Tom (Henry Golding), this slowly but surely begins to change for the better. Tom informs Kate that he works nights at the local homeless shelter. Consequently, after not being able to find him one day, Kate goes to the shelter and, despite not finding Tom, helps distribute tea among the homeless.

After meeting the volunteers and homeless people at the homeless shelter, Kate begins to help out the shelter. The first way in which she does this is by busking in front of the shelter in order to raise money.

Apologizing to Marta

Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas

It is clear from the start of the movie that Marta and Kate have had an antagonist relationship with each other for some time. However, this chasm between the two came to a head when Kate outed Marta in front of their parents. It was clear from Kate's expression that she instantly regretted her actions.

However, Kate's terrible action also helped to bring the siblings together because Kate then began to try and heal the divide in their relationship.

Santa Gives Kate Another Chance

Last Christmas Michelle Yeoh

Realizing she is late to an audition, Kate runs out of Santa's store without locking up. As a consequence, the next, day Kate shows up at work to see that the store has been robbed and a window has been smashed. Santa then tells Kate that she had to smash her own window in order to get the insurance money.

While this scene is not initially seen as sweet, Santa's decision to allow Kate one more chance shows how much she actually cares for Kate. It shows that she wants to help Kate turn her life around.

Kate Comforts Some Croatians On The Bus

Kate and her family fled the former state of Yugoslavia during the horrific conflict, with her parents making huge sacrifices for their children. However, a theme that is prevalent throughout the movie is Kate's wish to leave her past behind, frequently asking her family to stop calling her Katarina.

This appears to change during the movie, as she begins to interact with her family more. The sweetest moment, however, occurs on a bus ride. A man hears two Croatians speaking their language on the bus and shouts at them, telling them to speak English or leave the UK. After the man leaves, Kate then comforts and speaks Croatian to them.

Kate Makes Amends For Her Selfish Past

Throughout the movie, Kate is shown to be, essentially, homeless. She refuses to return to her parents' house, instead opting to live with friends. However, Kate's selfish or reckless actions often lead to her getting kicked out of her friends' houses.

After seeing the mistakes of her past, Kate begins to make amends with her friends. The most notable example of this is when she replaces a friend's model ship that she accidentally destroyed in the past.

Homeless Shelter Performance

Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas

The homeless shelter performance truly marked the end of Kate's character arc. It showed that she has finally moved away from her selfish and reckless world outlook and started helping others for the sake of helping others.

Not only was this great for Kate's future as a character, but it also helped to improve the lives of the homeless people and the volunteers, while also raising money for the shelter.

Santa's Excitement At A Date

Michelle Yeoh and Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas

Santa had always been shown to be a reserved and stern character throughout the movie. However, whenever her Danish love interest arrives, she becomes an entirely different character. When speaking to him, she seems to lose her usual stern composure.

Kate summed it up perfectly by saying she was acting like a giggly schoolgirl after going on a date with the Danish man. It was very cute and sweet seeing Santa act this way, Michelle Yeoh portrayed the character expertly.

'Take Care Of It For Me'

This is a major spoiler for the movie, so if you haven't seen Last Christmas yet, be warned.

Towards the end of the movie, it is revealed that Tom has been a figment of Kate's imagination and he was actually the person who donated his heart to Kate. On the night that Kate was taken to hospital with heart issues, Tom was hit by a truck and also taken to hospital. As Tom wasn't going to make it, Kate was given Tom's heart.

After Kate realizes that Tom donated his heart, Tom tells her to take care of it for him. It is an incredibly sweet and memorable moment.
