Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover would be interested in headlining a Lando Calrissian spinoff movie should the opportunity present itself. The jack-of-all-trades is making his highly-anticipated debut in the galaxy far, far away this week, portraying a younger version of fan-favorite scoundrel Lando. It comes to the surprise of no one Glover's performance is considered to be one of the prequel's brightest spots, with the actor bringing all his charm and charisma to the part. Some people are more excited to see Glover in Solo than anything else.
Headlines were made last week when it was initially reported Lucasfilm had a Lando movie coming through the pipeline, but the studio later clarified that it's merely an idea they would like to do at some point (and not a film actually in development). With Calrissian ready to become one of Solo's breakouts (and Glover's star on a meteoric rise), it stands reason to believe we haven't seen the last of the character onscreen. For his part, Glover would happily return to the franchise for his own spinoff.

Sitting down with EW as part of a Solo themed town hall, Glover was asked about the possibility of Lando: A Star Wars Story.
“It would always be fun to be Lando again. I would love to do it again. It’s really fun. The movie, I feel like, is wide open. This part of the universe without the… I feel like with the Skywalkers, it’s hard, because it’s almost like the Bible. There’s a story that you have to tell, and the lineage of that family. I feel like out here its like, yeah, we’re just like hustlers and gamblers and space pirates, essentially, so you can do a lot more and have a lot more fun. And I like those movies a lot. I like the comedy of them, the silliness and also the adventure. I think it would just be fun to do.”
As Glover alludes to, part of the appeal of the Star Wars anthologies is that they can break away from the operatic drama of the Skywalker story, going off and doing different things in the universe. Lando is definitely a character who seems tailor-made for a project along those lines, one that can detail his various exploits as a smuggler and card player. In his interview with us, Glover even pitched a Lando movie that would be along the lines of Steven Spielberg's entertaining caper Catch Me If You Can, which sounds like a recipe for success. Lucasfilm seems to be looking beyond the original trilogy for their upcoming movies, but should they return to this well, bringing back Lando would be a smart move.
Of course, Glover has gained acclaim in other realms during his prolific career, including an Emmy win for directing on the hit show Atlanta (plus a nomination for writing). While he enjoyed just being an actor on Solo, he would be game to bring his other talents to the table, saying "it would be fun" to pen a Lando spinoff. There's no denying Glover is a creative person bursting with ideas, so it might be worth to see what he could do with the material. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, he would certainly do it justice.
