Lamborghini's classic Countach is making a long-awaited comeback as a V12 hybrid hypercar for its 50th anniversary but car fanatics will have to act fast, as only 112 units are being made. The Countach is one of the Italian car maker's most iconic designs,  appearing in many movies and TV shows such as Cannonball Run, Miami Vice, and Kung Fury. The car is considered by many to be one of Lamborghini's greatest, so it should come as no surprise that the carmaker is bringing it back in a new eco-friendly version. albeit on a limited basis.

Lamborghini has been making hybrid and more eco-friendly cars for many years now. Previous offerings include The Sián FKP 37 Lamborghini's first supercar powered by a V12 engine and hybrid technology. Similar to the Countach, the Sián FKP 37 was given a limited release. The Sián FKP 37 can reach a max speed of 220mph and is able to go from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.

The Countach LPI 800-4 is similarly powerful. Able to match the Sián FKP 37's 0-60 speed of 2.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 220mph. According to a Lamborghini press release the new Countach uses hybrid technology by "Delivering 814 cv as maximum combined power (rounded at 800 in the name) from its aspirated powerplant (780 cv) and electric motor (34 cv) to its permanent four-wheel drive transmission, the LPI 800-4 produces peak Lamborghini performance of 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds, a 0-200 km/h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h."

Supercar Royalty Returns

lamborghini countach hybrid revival

Though the inside of the car is more or less an iteration of the Sián FKP 37, the exterior is clearly the Countach built for the 21st century. From the flat nose and smooth lines found all across the exterior, this truly looks like a continuation of one of the last century's most eye-catching car silhouettes, only now it comes with an inimitable V12 giving the legendary form factor the power it rightfully deserves. The indulgent butterfly wings which helped the original stand out will also be making a comeback.

There is no word yet on how much the Countach LPI 800-4 will eventually cost, however, some are estimating that it will be over $1 million. Only 112 are being built as a homage to the original car's LP 112 prototype designation. It will also be available in select heritage colors including the iconic shade of red "Luci del Bosco" along with modern-day shades totaling over thirty choices for hypercar lovers. The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is set to leave the production line in Q1 2022.
