Lake Bell first appeared on television screens in the early 2000s. One of her first big breaks came when she appeared in two episodes of the hit medical drama, E.R.  Shortly after that, Bell appeared alongside Alicia Silverstone in a short-lived NBC show called Miss Match.

In 2004, Bell became a recognizable face when she was cast as a series regular in Boston Legal. Lake Bell has had a strong and steady career ever since on television and in film. She has also branched out and has made a few of her own films serving as writer, director, and lead actor in the hit feature In a World. 

What Happens In Vegas (26%)

Lake Bell gets to show off her quirky, comedic timing and goes against the Hollywood "pretty girl" stereotype in What Happens in Vegas. In this comedy about a couple who break up, then accidentally makeup in Vegas, Lake Bell plays Tipper, the best friend/sidekick to Joy, played by Cameron Diaz. This comedy didn't get the best response from critics or audiences, but Lake Bell was recognized for her comedy chops and had plenty of laugh out loud moments in the feature film flop.

No Strings Attached (49%)

Lake Bell once again goes against the boxes Hollywood typically tries to put women in and plays another fun and quirky character. This film stars Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman as two friends attempting to have meaningless, casual sex, which of course, never works.

Lake Bell plays Lucy, an awkward co-worker turned potential one night stand for Ashton Kutcher's Adam. Bell brings a lot of humor and fun to this performance. She is a stand out in an all-star cast.

It's Complicated (58%)

In this romantic comedy starring Alec Baldwin as Jake and Meryl Streep as Jane, exes who can't seem to stay away from one another. Lake Bell plays Agness, Jake's new, much younger, wife. This is probably the film that made audiences sit up and pay attention to Bell, not only because of her great comedic timing and movie star looks but also in the way she holds her own on-screen with such well-known and iconic actors.

How To Make It In America (66%)

This series lasted for two seasons on HBO and tells the story of the New York fashion scene and two young twenty-somethings trying to make it in the industry, despite not having much of a background in it. Bryan Greenberg plays Ben Epstein, a graphic designer whose friend, Cam Calderon, played by Victor Rasuk, convinces him to start a business making leather jackets and retro jeans.

Lake Bell plays the love interest to Domingo Brown, played by Kid Cudi, who is the well-connected cousin of Cam and comes on board to steer the new entrepreneurs in the right direction.

The Secret Life Of Pets (73%)

In this animated feature all about the secret lives of our favorite animals, Lake Bell plays Chloe, a sarcastic, overweight tabby cat. This film follows Max and his other pet friends on their adventures throughout the day while their owners are all at work. At first, Chloe only seems to care about two things: food and herself. However, as the film plays on, Chloe warms up and even starts sticking up for her friends when they need her.

Man Up (80%)

Lake Bell and Simon Pegg star in this romantic comedy as Nancy and Jack. Nancy meets Jack as she travels through London on the way to see her family.

Jack mistakes Nancy for a blind date, and instead of correcting him, she decides to go with it, sending these two strangers on an unexpected and chaotic adventure together.

Mr. Peabody And Sherman (81%)

2014's Mr. Peabody and Sherman is an animated feature from DreamWorks based on the "Peabody's Improbable History" segment of the classic series, Rocky and Bullwinkle. In the film, Sherman uses his time machine to impress his friend Penny, but things don't go according to plan when Sherman accidentally rips a hole in the universe and must fix it before it's too late and history is altered forever. Sherman runs into a lot of famous historical figures on his journey to save the world and its history, including Mona Lisa, voiced by Lake Bell.

Bless This Mess (82%)

Lake Bell and Dax Shepherd star in this ABC comedy series that premiered on the network in 2019. Bell and Shepherd play Rio and Mike, respectively, who decide to leave the hustle and bustle of crazy city life for something slower and more rural.

They move from a penthouse in New York City to a farmhouse in Nebraska. Of course, nothing is ever as it seems and the couple quickly learns that the "simple life" isn't always so simple.

This comedy-drama legal series, created by David E. Kelley, aired for five seasons on ABC. Boston Legal was a spin-off series to Private Practice, and because of that, a lot of characters from the final season of the original series became regulars on the spin-off, including Lake Bell. She played Sally Heep, an associate at the law firm the show revolves around, Crane, Poole, & Schmidt.

In A World (92%)

In addition to starring in this hit indie feature, Lake Bell also wrote and directed the film. It's about the competitive world of voice acting and also delves into the complicated nature of father-daughter relationships. Lake plays Carol, a struggling voiceover actor with a father known for his famous voice. She ends up competing with her dad for a job, bringing a lot of their personal issues to the surface for the two adults to address and deal with.
