Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Loki episode 2, "The Variant."

Lady Loki is unveiled in Loki episode 2, which reveals that she variant attacks the planet Vormir in the year 2301 - so just why does the variant go to the planet that once played home to the Soul Stone? After the tease at the end of Loki episode 1, episode 2 brought the apparently villainous variant fully into the fold, as the God of Mischief figured out how to track her down through the timeline. Unfortunately for the TVA, though, plans to capture the variant went awry: she escaped through a time portal, with Loki following close behind.

Making matters worse is that Lady Loki set off a series of reset charges to disrupt the Sacred Timeline, essentially timebombing it to the point that it caused chaos among the TVA, who will struggle to put things right. These attacks took place all across both time and space, ranging from various locations on Earth to Asgard, Xandar, and even Thanos' home planet, Titan. Many of these make for nice Easter eggs, of course, but they're also significant locations in the MCU's history.

Another key example of this is Vormir: the TVA's timeline monitor reveals that Lady Loki's assault there takes place in the year 2301, and while it might just be a fun reference, the trailers for Loki have indicated there's more to it. One of the shots in the marketing for the show that caused much speculation was of a mysterious blonde, female character on a planet that looked a lot like Vormir, as previously seen in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While some believed this was Black Widow, it's now clear it was Lady Loki; that means she doesn't just timebomb Vormir, but does actually spend some time on the planet alongside Loki. The planet is best known for being the home of the Soul Stone, and while an Infinity Stone would surely add to the variant's already impressive power, that presumably isn't the reason she's there.

Black Widow Avengers Endgame Vormir

There's a question of whether the Soul Stone would be on Vormir. In terms of the Sacred Timeline, then since the Infinity Stones were destroyed by Thanos, it would no longer be there (leading to questions as to what that means for Red Skull as well). However, since Lady Loki's charges are creating multiple branched timelines, then it is possible in one of them there's a Vormir where the Soul Stone exists, though even then it would require a sacrifice of a loved one, which doesn't seem possible. But it's interesting that Vormir would not only be raised as a location she targets but, unlike the others, one that she actually visits.

Following the timeline of the Soul Stone being taken and then destroyed, and Red Skull being freed of his duties there, then Vormir would ostensibly be completely deserted, so it is a place in time where Lady Loki could go undetected. Even that, though, is an assumption: since it's 2301, a lot could have changed in the universe. After all, there must presumably be something there to affect with the reset charge, which suggests Lady Loki does have some impact beyond just hiding out on the planet. Lady Loki didn't have an infinite number of charges, so she had to select locations where she knew a lot of damage could be caused to the timeline. Vormir was once an incredibly important planet, and it seemingly will become one again.

It may not be for the Soul Stone, and it's even more unlikely there would be a Black Widow appearance, but the return to the planet is significant. Loki revealed the Infinity Stones don't matter, at least to the TVA, which led to some debate about it undercutting the sacrifice made by Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Endgame. With Vormir back in play, then it's once again going to stir up some feelings (good or bad) about Black Widow's death. What happens there remains to be seen, but Marvel should be revealing more about Vormir as Lady Loki's journey continues.
