MCU Theory: The TVA Helped Lady Loki Attack The Timeline

The second episode of Loki shows Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino) attack the Sacred Timeline, and she might be getting help from the TVA. Marvel Studios' latest Disney+ show revolves around a variant version of Tom Hiddleston's trickster from 2012 after he used the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame to mess up the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This brought the introduction of the Time Variance Authority and analyst Mobius M. Mobius, who recruited Loki to help them locate their biggest current threat: another Loki variant.

Loki and Mobius' search for this other variant was the focus of Loki's second episode. Loki uncovered that a variant could hide in any place in time right before an apocalyptic event, as their actions won't change what happens. With the clue of the variant Loki's interest in Kablooie gum, Loki and Mobius pinpointed the hideout to be in 2050 Alabama on the precipice of a hurricane causing an apocalyptic event. The 2012 Loki eventually finds his new variant, Lady Loki, and tries to recruit her to his cause. However, Lady Loki had a plan of her own, which included using the TVA's reset charges to attack the Sacred Timeline and creating a multiverse of madness.

Lady Loki's attack on the Sacred Timeline is a big moment that will likely have lasting ramifications on the MCU beyond Loki's six-episode first season. But something about Lady Loki's plan just doesn't quite feel right. She says that she doesn't have an interest in ruling the TVA with Loki and that her plans aren't about him at all. Her motivations are somewhat unclear, beyond just wanting to cause chaos, but Lady Loki also seemingly has a wealth of knowledge about how the TVA and Time-Keepers operate. With her giant ambitions, is it possible that someone inside the TVA is working with Lady Loki?

Lady Loki Knows Too Much About The TVA

The TVA has encountered plenty of variants during its time, but seemingly no outsider knows as much about the organization as Lady Loki. The first episode of Loki made it clear that no one really knows about the TVA unless they are captured or working for them. However, Lady Loki knows a great deal about them. She knows how to operate their technology to open doorways to other points in time and fully understands the capabilities of the reset charges. It's possible Lady Loki learned about this through her first encounter with the TVA and whenever she was initially deemed to be a variant. This could be where she even decided that destroying the TVA and ruining the Sacred Timeline is what she needs to do.

Furthermore, it seems that Lady Loki is one of the greatest threats they've ever faced. She's managed to evade capture for an unspecified amount of time. Although it appears Lady Loki's time on the run hasn't been that long, Loki episode two showed she had dozens of reset charges in her possession. The series has only shown that one or two of these devices go with each TVA agent when they go on their missions to reset the timeline. She proved how big of a threat she was during the most recent episode and it's clear she's been a recurring problem for the TVA recently. Yet they continue to send small groups after her instead of putting a bigger task force together to solve the Lady Loki problem.

Theory: The TVA Helped Loki's Variant

While it is possible that Lady Loki devised her current plan all by herself, there is reason to believe that someone inside the TVA could be helping her. Based on how many reset charges she had, Lady Loki would've had to kill or kidnap dozens of their agents. The TVA isn't treating her like that level of a threat, though. They're reluctant to try anything outside the box. They know she has some reset charges, but it doesn't appear that the scale of her plan was understood. Unless the TVA is completely underestimating her and downplaying the threat she poses, then she could've obtained reset charges in other ways. One such path could be if a TVA agent gave them to her to accelerate the attack on the timeline.

There is also the matter of the TVA's repeated failed attempts to capture Lady Loki that could play a factor in this. Loki showed two missions forming new branches on the MCU timeline that involved Lady Loki. While it is unknown if the TVA knew that they were sending these crews after Lady Loki, she still appears to be incredibly prepared for their arrivals. This could just be because she knows that they'll come eventually and having a general idea of what she has to do to cause a branched timeline. However, Lady Loki could also be receiving a tip from someone in the TVA that they're coming. She has various pieces of TVA technology, so something with communication purposes throughout the multiverse is possible. This would ensure Lady Loki knew when they're coming and can precisely prepare for her attacks.

Now that Lady Loki bombed the Sacred Timeline and Loki followed her at the end of episode 2, life for everyone in the TVA is about to become much crazier, but maybe that's exactly what someone in the organization wanted. A secret mole inside the TVA could've been helping Lady Loki this entire time for their own nefarious purpose. Lady Loki might not even fully know what she's helping accomplish, giving the character a chance to be less of a true villain as the series unfolds.

Why The TVA Would Attack The Timeline

If someone inside the TVA is working with Lady Loki, it raises a major question about why they'd want to attack the organization and the Sacred Timeline. Everything about the TVA's history is mysteriously vague or purposefully classified. The person working with Lady Loki might want to cause this much chaos to try and uncover what the organization is actually about. Plenty of Loki viewers and Loki himself have questioned the legitimacy of the TVA's origins and the role of the Time-Keepers. Now that the timeline is in flux, it should be an all-hands-on-deck situation for the TVA. If there is a giant conspiracy or untold truth about the TVA's past, this type of event could be what makes the truth known. And if the TVA's story is one giant lie, that could bring the whole organization crumbling down, which might free the agents to live their own lives.

The attack on the Sacred Timeline could also be a more targeted attack pertaining to the Time-Keepers. There is a lot of doubt about whether or not the Time-Keepers currently exist, or if they ever did. Even Mobius mentioned in Loki episode 2 that he's never met them. An attack on the Sacred Timeline of this degree is something that will require their full attention if they exist. Lady Loki even wants to know where they are located and seemingly gets the information from Hunter C-20. However, she could learn that the Time-Keepers aren't there after all or prove once and for all that they do exist.

Who Is Lady Loki Working With?

If there is a TVA agent working with Lady Loki to attack the Sacred Timeline and hurt the organization or the Time-Keepers, that raises a massive question about that individual's identity. Lady Loki's help could even come from the top of the TVA if Judge Ravonna Renslayer is aiding her. This might seem crazy at first, but there is a chance that she isn't buying everything she's tasked with selling either. Renslayer doesn't appear to know that much about the Time-Keepers and she has the authority to limit the size of the groups going after Lady Loki, which could mean ensuring that Lady Loki will be able to overpower them. And if Lady Loki has a history with the TVA, Renslayer could even be the one who enabled her to go off on this adventure.

There are several other candidates for Lady Loki's secret partner based on those who have appeared in Loki and those who have been teased. Renslayer mentioned a second analyst working for her in this episode, so perhaps that individual is actually undermining everything she's trying to accomplish. There's even the possibility that Kang the Conqueror could be helping Lady Loki if he wants to take over the TVA. Lastly, could Loki reveal it was Casey all along? He's been a fun side character early on who might want to take down the TVA so he can leave the headquarters and experience life, such as learning what a fish is. If this theory is correct and someone within the TVA is helping Lady Loki, it won't be too long before their identity is revealed.
