WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Loki episode 2.

There’s an easy-to-miss detail in Loki that may debunk the popular theory that Lady Loki is secretly Enchantress. After being arrested by the Time Variance Authority, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is recruited to help stop an evil Loki variant that’s running around the Sacred Timeline and causing havoc. Thanks to Hiddleston’s Loki, the TVA finally catches up with the evil variant, who turns out to be Sophia Di Martino’s Lady Loki. Unfortunately for the TVA, they are too late, and Lady Loki bombs various points in history on the Sacred Timeline.

Loki episode 2 finally reveals that Lady Loki is the one causing problems for the TVA, but it seems there’s more to her identity that’s still unknown. Though she’s supposedly a variation of Hiddleston’s Loki, she doesn’t look anything like him. While other Loki variants shown in the episode all somewhat resemble Hiddleston, Di Martino’s character is notably sans Loki's dark locks. She also has different powers from Loki, including being able to take over other people’s bodies. Additionally, while she's listed as "The Variant" in an English version of the Loki end credits, a Spanish version lists the character as "Sylvie." This has all led many to theorize that she’s not a Loki variant at all. Instead, Marvel may be trying to hide her true identity, which is Sylvie Lushton, a magical Marvel character also known as Enchantress.

While the Enchantress theory makes sense, one tiny detail from episode 2 of Loki seems to debunk it. After getting chewed out by Mobius for trying to betray the TVA, Hiddleston’s Loki is sent to desk duty and told to look over the Loki Variant’s file to try to find clues. It’s only visible briefly, but one of the pages of the file appears to list the character's named as “Sylvie Laufeydottir.” The name seems to indicate that the character is an alternate version of Loki after all.

The detail from the file in Loki shows that the name Sylvie didn’t leak in Marvel’s credits — it was in the episode the entire time. Also, the full name of Hiddleston’s character is Loki Laufeyson because it’s patronymic, meaning it comes from his father, the Frost Giant leader Laufey. Likewise, the name Sylvie Laufeydottir indicates that Sylvie is Laufey’s daughter, at least according to the TVA. The detail appears to prove that the character is a variant of Loki. She just goes by Sylvie.

While the Enchantress theory is still possible, it seems more likely that Di Martino’s character is a combination of both Enchantress and Lady Loki. (She’s just trying to move on from the Loki part.) Yes, she has powers that are similar to Enchantress’s in the comics, but Owen Wilson’s Mobius says earlier in the episode that the Loki variants can have different powers. After Hiddleston’s character calls her "Loki," Di Martino’s character — who’s talking through someone else that she enchanted — tells him, “Ugh. Don’t call me that.” Hiddleston’s Loki is defined by his past in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means other variations of Loki probably are too. With that in mind, it makes sense that a Loki who doesn't want to be bound to their past would want to blow it up in every way. In Sylvie's case, that's pretty literal.
