WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Loki episode 4.

Loki episode 4 creates its own confusing Lady Loki plot hole, and it didn't need to happen. In the episode, Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Sophia Di Martino's Lady Loki await their demise on Lamentis-1, but the pair seem to connect on a personal level right before the destruction. The two Loki variants having feelings for each other creates a nexus event, which promptly alerts the Time Variance Authority to their hiding spot. The agency saves Loki and Lady Loki at the last second, finally bringing them both in for questioning.

Thus far, Loki has done a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to fixing Marvel Cinematic Universe plot holes. For instance, Doctor Strange's entire plan in Avengers: Endgame doesn't make much sense. Out of more than 14 million possible scenarios, he sees only one way the Avengers can beat Thanos. However, that way apparently relies on a random rat getting Ant-Man out of the Quantum Realm, something Strange seemingly had no control or influence over. This problem is immediately explained away in Loki. According to the TVA, the Time-Keepers step in if anything is wrong with the Sacred Timeline, so all the random events of Endgame were always meant to happen.

Despite clearing up many plot holes, Loki also unnecessarily creates one involving Lady Loki. While Owen Wilson's Mobius is interrogating Loki, the God of Mischief reveals that Lady Loki likes to be called Sylvie. Mobius is intrigued. "Ah, Sylvie. Lovely," he says, seemingly writing the name down. Mobius adds, "How do you spell that? Is that with an I-E or just an I?" Though the line seems innocuous enough, it actually breaks the MCU.

Loki Lady loki theory Sylvie Laufeydottir

The TVA already knows Lady Loki's real name, so Mobius' behavior doesn't make sense. In episode 2, Sylvie is still a rogue variant, and Mobius gives Loki her files, hoping he can find something the TVA has overlooked. Though it's a brief scene, Sylvie's full name, which is Sylvie Laufeydottir, is shown in the file. Mobius' line in episode 4 about spelling Sylvie's name doesn't add up. He should already know. Also in episode 2, Mobius vouches for Loki after he tries to trick the TVA out on a mission. When telling Loki why he stood up for him, Mobius says, "I just wanna catch this guy." Despite Sylvie's file showing she's a female Loki (Laufeydottir means Laufey's daughter), the TVA continually acts like she's not.

No matter what, the moment is confusing, but there may be some reasons behind it. Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) knew Sylvie since she was a young girl, and she's clearly holding back the truth about why the TVA is out to get her. Obviously, she'd want to keep some of the details about the case a secret from Mobius and the other TVA agents. Additionally, the rogue Loki variant's identity is a twist in Loki episode 2. Though Sylvie's name on the file was an Easter egg for eagle-eyed viewers, Sylvie's identity was a surprise for casual fans. Still, the fact that Sylvie's name is in the file means Mobius should've seen it. If those are the types of details Mobius misses, perhaps it's good he has Loki's help after all.
