Lady Gaga is now trending on Twitter as fans demand that Marvel cast her in a superhero role. The pop star first rose to prominence with her debut single "Just Dance," a 2008 hit that was her first #1 song of many. Throughout the years she has dominated charts with singles like "Poker Face," "Bad Romance," and "Born This Way."

Over the years, while still releasing music, Lady Gaga has transitioned into a movie star in her own right. After appearing as a vampire in American Horror Story season 5 and returning to the show in several subsequent seasons, Lady Gaga has had her eye on Oscar gold. Her first starring role was in the Best Picture nominated musical remake A Star is Born, which was directed by Bradley Cooper. Although that film won her an Oscar for the original song "Shallow," she didn't win for her performance despite being nominated. She'll likely be making another play for the gold this year on the back of her performance in Ridley Scott's biopic House of Gucci, in which she plays Patrizia Reggiani, who married into the Gucci family and ended up having her husband murdered.

On Twitter, fans from across the globe have caused Lady Gaga to trend as they call for the MCU to cast her in a role in an upcoming project. This flurry of tweets seems to have been inspired by a post responding to (unsubstantiated) rumors that Gaga is in talks with the studio, sharing a clip of Stan Lee saying he's "gotta make her a heroine." Although specific roles haven't necessarily been mentioned, as these tweets are coming more from pop music fans than comic book fans, one recommended she play X-Men character Emma Frost and another suggested a team-up with Bradley Cooper's Guardians of the Galaxy character Rocket Raccoon. Check out some selected tweets below:

One element of the MCU that supports this desire on the part of the fans is the fact that Marvel has now opened its casting doors to pop musicians. Former One Direction singer Harry Styles made a cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals this playing Eros, the brother of Thanos. Plus, although she is primarily an actress, Hawkeye's Hailee Steinfeld's followed her musical performance in Pitch Perfect 2 with the debut single "Love Myself," which hit #30 on the Billboard charts in 2015.

However, another important factor in whether or not Lady Gaga will ever play a Marvel heroine is whether or not she would ever want to be in one. Although her very first movie cameos were in the Robert Rodriguez franchise movies Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, she has largely focused on meaty roles that will garner awards buzz. Her tastes would seem to range much closer to the Martin Scorsese realm and considering that the Goodfellas director has been outspoken about his negative feelings toward the MCU, that may steer her away from superhero projects for the time being.
